First, a few words from Cy -- Solar Minimum. It's the name given the cycle where sunspots diminish on the surface of the sun and reduce the space temperature around the planet earth. And right now we are in the deepest one seen in a hundred years. The world we 're living in is feeling cold in lots of ways other than the sun's warmth. We are experiencing contractions -- economically, globally and personally. This period has me looking to the sky and, at the same time, looking inward.About the music --Solar Minimum was produced by Nick Jackson (of the Progressive Rock band IT) at Spacehouse Studios in London. Together, Cy and Nick carefully constructed the tracks, which contain a range of influences, utilized to best express the desired tone for each song. It is a rare project that weaves touches of techno with haunting strings, R&B and even a little Western flourish. The resulting songs are as eclectic and complicated as the song writer. For this project, Cy was delighted to get help from many wonderful musicians, including string arranger Emmanuel d'Orlando, Vihn Pham, violinist of the Sinfionetta de Paris, Bruce Gaisch on slide guitar, drummer Will Chism, and Fixx bandmates Jamie West-Oram on guitar and Rupert Greenall on the Melodica. The instruments impress on this production, but they also complement Cy Curnin's vocals, which are powerful and distinctive no matter what genre they are applied to. The result is a project with a cinematic feel that is likely to connect with listeners in unexpected ways. Biography--For over 25 years, Cy Curnin has been connecting with audiences through his music. Known for evocative lyrics and distinctive vocals, he developed a solid reputation in modern rock circles as the lead singer of The Fixx. In recent years, Cy has also carved out a solo career that has produced a number of CDs, including Mayfly (2005), The Returning Sun (2007) and now, Solar Minimum . Born and raised in England, Cy had been singing in various bands around London when he met Adam Woods and they began to put together their own group, placing ads in local newspapers.
