| A pretty good live album LIVING WITH THE PAST is a very good representation of Jethro Tull in concert. I wonder when BURSTING OUT and A LITTLE LIGHT MUSIC will be reissued on CD in this country because I'm anxious to hear more live Tull. Yes Drama CD (1980)
Living with the Past songs It was widely assumed that when vocalist/songwriter Jon Anderson left Yes at the end of the '70s, the band was doomed. Most folks forgot that bassist/composer Chris Squire was the other founding member of the band, and he had as much to do with their sound as Anderson. It was surprising enough when the band decided to continue with a new vocalist and keyboardist. It was even more surprising when the new members turned out to be Trevor Horn (later a famed pop producer) and Geoff Downes (who would soon depart with Steve Howe for Asia). And it was downright shocking when the resultant album DRAMA turned out to be a great one.
While Horn's voice is in the same general range as Anderson's, he tends to blend more with the vocals of Howe and Squire for a distinctive three-part harmony sound. Similarly, the individual instrumental statements of Howe and Downes avoid grandstanding in favor of the group dynamic. Consequently, DRAMA is one of Yes' most direct, concise offerings, full of relatively short songs that still maintain all the Yes hallmarks. Anderson diehards should leave their inhibitions at the door.
No Wakeman or Anderson on this 1980 LP, which still hit #18! This hard-rocker featuring Tempus Fugit now has 10 bonus cuts including unissued single versions and tracking sessions.
Includes ten bonus tracks.

Uriah Heep Wake the Sleeper CD (2008)
Living with the Past CD music Although Uriah Heep is known for its extensive personnel changes, its lineup has been stable since the mid-'80s; unfortunately, that stability coincided with the band's commercial decline (its last album to chart in the U.S. came in 1983, its last in its native U.K., 1985). So, no one outside the group's fan base noticed that the quintet of founding member and guitarist Mick Box, drummer Lee Kerslake (1971-1978, 1982-2007), bassist Trevor Bolder (who joined in 1977, left during the band's hiatus in the early '80s, and returned a couple of years after its re-formation), singer Bernie Shaw, and keyboard player Phil Lanzon (both of whom joined in the mid-'80s) remained in place through numerous world tours and the studio albums Raging Silence (1989), Different World (1991), Sea of Light (1995), and Sonic Origami (1998). Since then, a series of live albums have testified to Uriah Heep's continued existence. In January 2007, Kerslake bowed out due to health problems and was replaced by the capable Russell Gilbrook. Wake the Sleeper, Uriah Heep's first studio album in ten years and 21st overall, finds the group attempting to reclaim its original glory. It has had time to gather some quality material and to assess its long-term musical approach, and the album is both consistent with its sound over the years and a statement of purpose for the present and the future. As if to blow away the cobwebs, the album begins with three consecutive quick-tempo rockers, the title song (which has no lyrics except for that title), "Overload," and the socially conscious "Tears of the World" ("The tears of the world keep falling until we stand together.") Things slow down only slightly with "Light of a Thousand Stars," which, like much of the rest of the album, sounds like it could have been made in 1978 instead of 2008. The guitar/organ/bass/drums instrumental lineup often recalls Deep Purple, and Shaw's clear tenor is reminiscent of Journey's Steve Perry and Boston's Brad Delp. This, of course, is one of the problems with Uriah Heep. Thirty-eight years into an artist's career, critics should not be falling back on the "sounds like" game to describe the music. And yet those comparisons are hard to avoid; one hears a little Led Zeppelin here ("Book of Lies"), a little Deep Purple there ("Angels Walk with You"), and sometimes just a generic '70s prog rock style ("Heavens Rain," "What Kind of God"). But maybe that's just to say that Wake the Sleeper isn't going to change anyone's mind about Uriah Heep. The album is true to the band's legacy, and the songs should please longtime fans who come out to the shows, juxtaposed with more familiar old songs in the set list. ~ William Ruhlmann
2008 release, Uriah Heep's first studio album in almost 10 years. Wake The Sleeper is set to herald an exciting new phase for the band, taking their classic sound right into the future. The album see’s Uriah Heep back to their very best and is set to become a future classic: sure to please their dedicated worldwide fan base and fans of Progressive Rock in general. Recorded in 2007 the album was produced by Mike Paxman (Status Quo, Judie Tzuke). This is the band's first album without their long-standing and original drummer, Lee Kerslake who sadly had to leave the band due to ill health in January 2007. Filling the drum stool for the very first time is the hugely well respected Russell Gilbrook. The current band also features Mick Box, Trevor Bolder, Phil Lanzon and Bernie Shaw. 11 tracks including 'Overload', 'Tears Of The World' and 'Light Of A Thousand Stars'. Sanctuary.

Eric Clapton / Steve Winwood Live from Madison Square Garden CDs (2009) Top Seller
Living with the Past buy CD music When their hugely influential groups (Cream and Traffic, respectively) disbanded, Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood made rock history when they joined forces in the short-lived Blind Faith in the late 1960s. Forty years later these legends collaborated again, selling out a trio of dates at Madison Square Garden, the results of which are captured on this dynamic double-disc set.
The set list includes material from the catalogs of Blind Faith, Traffic, Derek and the Dominos, and Clapton's solo oeuvre (including the J.J. Cale-penned classics "After Midnight" and "Cocaine"). Two Jimi Hendrix covers appropriately evoke the bygone `60s era, but the mode here is more laid-back and polished than fiery and psychedelic. That's not to say that Winwood and Clapton, who shine equally on these cuts, don't charm with their familiar skill and finesse. The result is 21 tracks-worth of classic rock pleasure.
Recording information: 02/2008.
Photographer: Danny Clinch.
Personnel: Eric Clapton (vocals, guitar); Steve Winwood (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Chris Stainton (keyboards); Willie Weeks (bass instrument); Ian Thomas (drums).
Audio Mixer: James Towler.
