| | Charlie Rich Charlie Rocks CD - Import Charlie Rich Discography of CDs
In contrast to the Charly label's Charlie Rich compilation, THE COMPLETE SUN MASTERS, released at just about the same time in mid-2009, Bear Family's CHARLIE ROCKS goes one step further and includes some of Rich's eclectic, unclassifiable recordings from his Smash Records tenure in the mid-'60s, including strikingly good soul-country songs like "Mohair Sam" and "I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water." The earlier Sun rockabilly hits are all here, of course--"Lonely Weekends," "Rebound," Break-up"--oddly Elvis-like in vocal approach yet much more adult in feeling, which was both Charlie Rich's blessing and his curse. It wasn't till the Nashville of the '70s that this singer-pianist's particular brand of musical and emotional sophistication began to be appreciated. Charlie Rocks Review

| | Sugarland Gold & Green CD (2009)
Charlie Rocks CD music
$12.35 Georgia's Sugarland rose to great heights in 2009 - their 2008 album LOVE ON THE INSIDE reached platinum status, they recorded a prime-time network television special called LIVE ON THE INSIDE, which was then released in numerous packages that all sold well, and the group has sold out live shows globally. Therefore it seems to make sense for the group to release yet another stop-gap before the year runs out in lieu of a new studio album. GOLD AND GREEN is a hybrid holiday recording. It contains ten tracks, five of which are Christmas standards including a country boogie version of "Winter Wonderland," a "backwoods" "O Come O Come Emmanuel," and a steeped-in-reverence acoustic version of "Silent Night," sung bilingually in Spanish and English. The other five cuts are originals themed for the holidays. One has to give Sugarland some ...

| | Darius Rucker Learn To Live CD (2008)
Charlie Rocks CD music
$12.55 Although for the rest of his life, underinformed fans of 1990s pop will forever be calling Darius Rucker "Hootie," the former Hootie & the Blowfish singer-songwriter makes his solo debut with a perfectly credible take on mainstream contemporary Nashville country. The laid-back, largely acoustic folk-pop of Hootie & the Blowfish was never that far removed from contemporary country in the first place, so only the fact that Rucker is the first major African-American country star since the heyday of Charley Pride makes the stylistic crossover out of the ordinary. First single "Don't Think I Don't Think About It," a Top 5 hit on the Billboard country charts even prior to the album's release, makes clear how comfortable Rucker is with the blend of the Eagles and the Dixie Chicks that is contemporary country radio, and tracks like "History in the Making" and "Forever Road" are equally fine examples of the form.

| | L A Guns Black List CD (2005)
Charlie Rocks CD music
$13.49 Here's a little-known glam-metal fact: Phil Lewis was not the first frontman for Sunset Strip favorites L.A. Guns. There were actually a few others who fronted the band before Lewis (Axl Rose was rumored to be an early member), one of whom was a gentleman named Paul Black. The Black-led version of L.A. Guns (which also included Tracii Guns and Mick Cripps, two members who would later appear on the group's recordings with Lewis) managed to demo quite a bit of material during their short tenure together, which serves as the basis for 2005's Black List. As expected, these '80s-era demos are not exactly up to snuff sonically with the eventual studio albums by the group, but for hardcore fans, there are a few areas of interest. Tops on the list would ...

| | Guillaume State Of Grace CD (2009)
Charlie Rocks album
$12.69 Guillaume is part of this new breed of singer-songwriters that seem to defy categorization. While deeply rooted in the blues, country and American folk, his music incorporates many other influences, a testament to Guillaume's broad musical background. Guillaume grew up in Paris, France, and began music as a classical violinist. He later switched to the piano, and eventually found his calling in the guitar. After a few stints with various rock outfits and having relocated to New York, Guillaume switched his attention to the acoustic guitar. During these formative years Guillaume studied with some of the best acoustic guitarists on the planet including Woody Mann, Martin Simpson, Bob Brozman, John Cephas, Mike Dowling, Steve James. In 2003, Guillaume release his first solo record Traverse, a collection of original tunes crafted over the years, including two tracks with lyrics by Carl Casinghino. In the studio Guillaume enlisted the help of the Casinghino 7, a Northampton-based jazz/blues band.In 2005 Guillaume partnered with Jon Vesey to form the Second Fiddles, a country blues, country and ragtime combo featuring tight vocal harmonies, guitar, mandolin, banjo and harmonica. The Fiddles have matured and thrived and continue to be a force to be reckoned with on the New York City roots scene having performed close to 40 gigs in 2008 and shared the stage with some of today's greatest proponents of the acoustic blues genre such as Mary Flower, Steve James, Del Rey, Rich DelGrosso, Mike Dowling, Eric & Suzy Thomson, David Bennett Cohen. In 2008 Guillaume experienced some ...
