Standard Screen; Soundtrack English The nuclear submarine Alabama, on a mission near Russian waters, gets an incomplete order that may or may not be the signal to launch nuclear weapons. Captain Ramsey (Gene Hackman) wants to launch missiles, but must have the agreement of his second-in-command, Hunter (Denzel Washington). A tense battle of wills ensue, as the crew must choose sides in this tense military thriller. When Russian rebels gain control of nuclear weapons in the USSR, the United States retaliates by deploying the USS Alabama, a nuclear submarine commanded by Captain Frank Ramsey (Gene Hackman). Veteran soldier and Naval legend Ramsey selects Lt. Commander Ron Hunter (Denzel Washington)--a Harvard graduate who prefers using brains over weapons--as his Executive Officer. While submerged, the Alabama is attacked by a Russian sub and loses radio contact just as an order is being transmitted from headquarters. Old Navy dog Ramsey firmly believes that the interrupted transmission ends with an order to fire their nuclear missiles at the Russian rebels. Hunter, desperate to avoid starting World War III, is determined to re-establish radio contact and act only after complete orders are received. Without the second-in-command's agreement, the missiles cannot be launched, and soon Ramsey and Hunter are engaged in a tense battle of wills, forcing the crew to choose sides. In the tradition of TOP GUN and TRUE ROMANCE, director Tony Scott keeps the tension running high in this fast-paced military thriller. Hackman scores as the tradition-bound Ramsey, and Washington is superb as the thoughtful young officer who feels compelled to take a stand against his superior. Theatrical release: May 12, 1995.
Ryan Phillippe made his feature film debut with his brief appearance as Seaman Grattam.
Jason Robards makes an uncredited appearance as the Admiral.
Uncredited screenplay assistance came from Quentin Tarantino.

Crimson Tide Movie Review One of the best submarine movies Crimson Tide is one of my favourite submarine movies I have ever seen. It is as good as "Das Boot" and "The Hunt for Red October". I also like the speech bevore boarding of Captain Ramsey. Submitted by a reviewer (Uelzen, Germany) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful. This review is for a different format.
Extended Crimson Tide I was very curious when I saw that an extended version of Crimson Tide was released and I must say that I was not disappointed. The extended scenes helped to flesh out the story line and it gave more insight into the conlict between Washington's and Hackman's characters. If anyone plans to upgrade their movie collection from VHS to DVD, get the extended Crimson Tide. You wont be disappointed. Submitted by Intrepid4047 (New York City) Was This Review Helpful? no special features? I wanted to buy this movie, but was shocked to find it has no special features. I have to believe that a lot went into making this movie, and with so many other movies offering special features like director voice-over, this DVD will not get my money. They need to release an updated version with actor interviews, etc., and then I might be interested. Submitted by thenostromo (Oakland, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? $26.63 Though HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN director Alfonso Cuaron still holds the crown for best film in the series, David Yates is making an attempt at a coup with HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE. Dark, gleefully funny, and beautifully shot, this adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s novel should please fans despite numerous changes to the 650-page source material. In this sixth film in the series, Harry’s (Daniel Radcliffe) inevitable confrontation with the dark wizard Voldemort grows closer, and Hogwarts headmaster Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) wants the young student to be prepared. He guides Harry through a memory of a young Voldemort, but an important moment is missing. Harry must extract this memory from the new Hogwarts teacher, Horace Slughorn (a perfectly slimy Jim Broadbent), who is as eager for fame as he is reluctant to revisit this painful moment. Meanwhile, romance rules the school of witches and wizards, with Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint) refusing to admit their feelings for each other. Harry also harbors a secret love of his own: Ron’s younger sister, Ginny (Bonnie Wright). But despite his crush, Harry keeps an eye on Snape (Alan Rickman) and Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), who may be responsible for attacks on the school.

Crimson Tide film
$37.14 Festival cause célèbre Ole Christian Madsen--the director of critically championed prior efforts including KIRA'S REASON (2001) and PRAGUE (2006)--turns away from the domestic drama that characterized his earlier filmography with this unusual period thriller. Thure Lindhardt and Mads Mikkelsen star, respectively, as Flame and Citronen. As two members of the anti-Nazi Danish resistance during the Second World War, their activities predominantly consist of hunting down and rubbing out Denmark's most prominent Nazi collaborators, and thus furthering the way for the Allied cause. Although Madsen opts for conventional subject matter here, and even a traditional perspective given his film's anti-Nazi stance, his deglamorized presentation retains a certain uniqueness, with the two main characters presented not as conventional heroes, but thoroughly desperate characters from the dregs of society with nothing left to lose except for their own lives--and sociopaths prone to the most sadistic acts of ultraviolence against the enemy. Citron fares worst, as an utterly irredeemable drug alcoholic and addict, crumbling beneath the weight of a miserable, rotten marriage and a less-than-glowing relationship with his young daughter. In touting the film, Madsen openly cited Jean-Pierre Melville's ARMY OF SHADOWS (1969) as one of his key influences.
