After the original Stryper lineup (minus bassist Tim Gaines) reunited for 2005's somewhat alternative/nu-metal tinged REBORN, the band made a stylistic return to form with MURDER BY PRIDE. Brimming with harmonized twin guitar leads, big hair metal-approved shout-along hooks, and Michael Sweet's trademark soaring, Dennis DeYoung-esque vocals, the album rivals the best of Styper's `80s output, including the genre-defining TO HELL WITH THE DEVIL. Even casual fans who only know the band's mega-hit power ballad "Honestly" will find a lot to like in the piano-driven, Beatles-reminiscent "Alive." Elsewhere, songs such as the pounding, shred guitar solo-laden "4-Leaf Clover" and the head-banging title track manage to recapture the exciting essence of group's MTV heyday without ever sounding retro or dipping into self-parody. Veteran Christian metal outfit Stryper celebrated their 25th anniversary with Murder by Pride, an amiable 12-track collection of upbeat pop-metal on par with the group's early-'80s offerings like Soldiers Under Command and To Hell with the Devil. Vocalist/guitarist Michael Sweet's pipes have lost little in their transition from upstart faith-based twenty-something to seasoned hard-rocking worship leader, and his lyrics (though occasionally leaning hard on the cheese factor) are never overtly preachy, something that has always made Stryper one of the more accessible and legitimately fun acts in the notoriously sterile CCM genre. Murder by Pride stays true to the '80s hair metal template of ten rockers and two ballads, boasting at least three instant fan favorites in "4 Leaf Clover," "Eclipse for the Son," and the rousing title cut, as well as a choice cover of the Boston classic "Peace of Mind" featuring guitar work from Tom Scholz himself. ~ James Christopher Monger Stryper Murder By Pride Songs Murder By Pride Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) GREAT POSITIVE ROCKING ALBUM Stryper, for those who dont know, are the first Christian Rockers to achieve mainstream recognition and praise for its music and message. Whether you are a Christian or not is hardly the point, since music itself is universal and this album showcases why Stryper was a name to be reckoned in the 80s and early 90s, and why you should give them a go now more than ever. From track 1 you are on for a ride on their unique mix of high pitched vocals, crude and skillful guitar playing, solos, catchy choruses and backing vocal harmonies. Even more special, though, is that the lyrics are great statements of hope, faith, gratefulness to God and a real appreciation of lifes beauty, something you dont get much (if ever) in Rock albums. So much has been expected from this band lately, since their announced return in the beginning of this century, and after a somewhat disappointing comeback studio album in 2005 called Reborn (good album, but not outstanding), Murder by Pride is definitely the real deal. There is a fine balance of edgier songs mixed together with fantastic heartfelt ballads that transpire emotion in every word. Stand out tracks for me are 4 Leaf Clover, Peace of Mind (cover off legendary Boston), Alive, Murder by Pride, Love is Why, Mercy over Blame and Everything. An album that has everything to please everyone, definitely a must-have! Submitted by rafadepaula85 (Lisbon, Portugal) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Awesome! Stryper is back and better than ever and they were always great! I've only listened to this a couple of times and already have songs stuck in my head. Great melodies, awesome musicianship all around and amazing vocals as usual. If you're a Stryper fan or like great melodic rock and metal get this now! Heavy riffs and melodical (melodic + musical = melodical ) refrains build a masterpiece. Another brilliant band located by US based Nightmare Records. For fans of Children of Bodom, In Flames & Arch Enemy.LOCH VOSTOK , named after a subterranean lake in Antarctica, rose out of the collapse of Progressive Metal band Mayadome in 2001. After 10 years Drummer Teddy Möller was tired of the cheese and decided to start something more meaty, hence LOCH VOSTOK was born.Three core members, Mayadome founder Teddy Möller, Keyboardist Sebastian Okupski and Bass Player Erik Grandin set about formulating a new act. Möller would switch from his erstwhile role as a Drummer to that of Lead Vocalist/Guitarist and with the incorporation of former Ramrod, 5 Steps Ahead and El Presidente guitarist Niklas Kupper alongside ex-Azotic Reign, 5 Steps Ahead, El Presidente and Imperial Domain drummer Alvaro Torres the band was complete. However, Grandin was to relocate to the USA and so former Mellow Poetry guitarist Tomas "Tym" Jonsson stepped in to fill the bass vacancy.Utilising producer Daniel Bergstrand LOCH VOSTOK cut a self financed album 'Dark Logic' entirely based upon infamous serial killers such as Henry Lee Lucas, Andreij Tzjikatilo and Ed Gein. The first label to pick up the album for distribution would be the Russian concern CD-Maximum.Shortly after the Russian release, Portugese label Magnetism Records contracted LOCH VOSTOK , and released 'Dark Logic' worldwide August 1st 2004.Sebastian Okupski decided to focus on his cover band "Bulldog" and is keeping himself busy with that, so LOCH VOSTOK then decided to find another keyboardist for the band. Andreas Lindahl from fellow-Swedish metal act Platitude offered his services. He played some live shows and recorded the new album with LOCH VOSTOK but then decided to leave because of the distance between Gothenburg, where he lives, and Uppsala where the other guys live and rehearse.LOCH VOSTOK is a real band, not just another ...
