Additional Footage; Soundtrack English; English Subtitles; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re; Special Edition Provocative British director Peter Greenaway returns to form with his 2007 film NIGHTWATCHING. The intellectual whodunit follows legendary Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn (Martin Freeman, best known as Tim in the British version of THE OFFICE) as he uncovers a murder-mystery while painting his masterpiece "The Night Watch." When his investigation reveals a dangerous conspiracy that could ruin him and his family, Rembrandt decides to hide clues to the crime within the artwork itself. Like an arthouse THE DA VINCI CODE, NIGHTWATCHING finds Greenaway exploring his signature theme of the meaning of art in the neoclassical style that marked his early films such as THE BELLY OF AN ARCHITECT and THE DRAUGHTSMAN'S CONTRACT. $13.15 The first album from Adriana Calcanhotto, Enguico reveals her to be a sensitive interpreter, a young singer who is somewhat hard to classify in the mean mass-production market, as the eclectic choice of repertory and arrangements here indicates. The album opens with "Enguiço," a swing conception with brass section, followed by a Joao Donato tune performed as an acoustic pop ballad. Next is "Caminhoneiro," a cheesy hit by Roberto Carlos, transformed in the excellent violao rendition of the wonderful late virtuoso Raphael Rabello. "Sonífera Ilha" follows, also an openly commercial hit by the Titas, in a convincing bossa interpretation. "Disseram Que Voltei Americanizada," a classic hit by Carmen Miranda (interpreted with all Miranda's mannerisms), was written as a response to the intense criticism she suffered in Brazil after moving to the U.S.; it was recorded live. "Orgulho de um sambista" is a samba classic which got a pop ballad treatment, happily freed from gated snare drum; in fact, it has no drumming at all, just percussion. "Nunca" is a typical bossa classic by Lupicínio Rodrigues and follows the instrumental tone set by the preceding song. There are two more songs by newer composers, followed by an original. Calcanhotto has the courage to ...

$28.65 Filmed at the time of the 1968 student uprising in Paris, Lindsay Anderson's IF. . . is one of the seminal films of the era of student revolt. The characters' direct psychological and emotional displays are an allegory for how individuals must either conform to or rebel against the autocratic authority that is imposed upon them in the face of a class-driven society. The microcosm for this allegory in IF... is College House, a typical English boarding school for boys 11-18 years of age. Malcolm McDowell makes a powerful debut in the role of Mick Travis, a student in his Junior year who becomes the leader of a student rebellion. The students are rebelling against the system which allows Senior prefects to control and discipline younger students--through physical beatings--for infractions of the schools arcane and arbitrary rules. When Mick is disciplined by the Seniors for his "bad attitude" he is punished in a harrowing scene which does not romanticize the violence he endures.
Divided into chapters with on-screen titles, Anderson methodically shows Mick's transition from adolescent rebelliousness--growing a mustache--to more serious revolt. Anderson uses surrealism, in a style similar to that of Bunuel or even Monty Python. For instance, the headmaster keeps the school chaplain in a large drawer in his office. Clearly ...
