Sabor A Fresa
$13.59 Not all mellow, Houston Person's tribute to the softer side of jazz has its moments based on the laid-back timbre of his soul rather than a program consisting of only ballads. The tenor sax he wields certainly reflects the tradition established by Ben Webster in its soul-drenched tone, but is not as vocally pronounced or vibrato driven. The quite capable pianist John DiMartino is the one whose more enunciated notions are harnessed, while tasteful guitar by the underrated James Chirillo ring out in acceptance ...

$6.15 Al Jarreau finally found success in the U.S. after 1975's We Got By. The later albums that followed ,like 1977's live Look to the Rainbow and 1978's All Fly Home found him attaining the all-important ...
| | Jeff Hamilton Symbiosis CD (2009)
Sabor A Fresa
$12.59 Jeff Hamilton's recordings have always been focused as straight-ahead and mainstream as your typical superhighway, with occasional time for rest stops, gassing up, and sleepovers. While always a good listen, Hamilton and his non-stop rotation of up-and-coming pianists and bassists never really pushed the envelope, staying the course set by his mentor, the late, great bassist Ray Brown, and other California-based coolsters. With Symbiosis, though, there's a change in ...

Sabor A Fresa
$10.45 Though Ray Charles, one of the greatest singers of the 20th century, was never in need of vocal assistance, he was no stranger to duets either (one of his finest records is a duet album with Betty Carter). For as much of a musical giant as he was, Brother Ray knew how to share the spotlight, as evidenced by GENIUS LOVES COMPANY, his final project before his 2004 passing. In keeping with the eclectic nature of Charles's artistry, ...
| | Meg Davis Captain Jack & The Mermaid CD (2009)
Sabor A Fresa
$13.69 Music Reviews " Sung and arranged like some of the very best moments of early Judy Collinsor Pearls Before Swine's lazy day surrealism, Meg Davis's albums are filled with wonderful tales breathed out upon the air with a voice like the chiming of bells."DIRTY LINENLISTEN.COM REVIEW : Davis writes and sings stunningly beautiful songs complete with three-part harmonies that sound like the songs of sirens from Greek Mythology. Although her folk is more Medeival than Country, her harmonies are as rich and intricate as those of Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt.(Reviewed by Eric.S.) "Meg's singing is, quite predictably, ...

| | Faith Gibson Big Moon CD (2009)
Sabor A Fresa
$13.15 "Sometimes you just know. It takes two or three tunes to verify it, but as the well-written originals continue, one can distinguish quality song writing. Faith Gibson, a new name to me, contributes a few tunes here and turns other selections over to very hip wordsmith Christopher Morse. His melodies, along with those of others here, are fresh and invigorating. And Ms. Gibson interprets these tunes in an ultra-cool but totally unpretentious manner that she’s seemingly perfect for the task. Gibson chooses a small jazz group, all unknown names to me, to provide ideal, understated backup. The two standards on the disc are also performed with pizzaz. Gibson isn’t going to spin your head around with show biz shtick. Instead there’s a touch of Meredith d’Ambrosio or Lorraine Feather here and there. In any case, I really liked her approach and wouldn’t mind hearing more from her."-- George Fendel - Jazzscene Magazine - Jazz Society of Oregon"Now we're talkin'! I love a sultry jazz tune as much as the next guy, but sometimes it's a joy to listen to a vocalist take a more direct and pragmatic route to pleasure. The song's protagonist is looking for a man who doesn't need to be babied. Or, in Gibson's words, 'man enough to love a woman built for speed.'She knows what she wants, and the music is equally no-nonsense. Saxophonist Gregoire Peters and guitarist Jo Gehlmann lay down a snappy unison riff as a retort to the leader's statements. Underneath all of this the rhythm section swings ...
