A grizzly, furious beast of a 30-minute record, Youth of America saw Greg Sage and his Wipers lengthening some of their material to very unfashionable lengths; many a hardcore punk band of the time could tuck a dozen songs about Reagan and fisticuffs inside the title track alone. Opposed to the compromised Is This Real?, Youth of America was engineered and recorded in-house; Sage's time spent in a professional setup for the debut LP frustrated him, and the fact that he's gained complete control here makes it seem as if a cork has been pulled from a bottle. The shackles are off and the group's own personality hits full bloom. Vocally, Sage sounds like a sleepless outcast loaded on an unhealthy amount of caffeine, fraught with a magnified level of paranoia and angst that needs immediate purging -- often, his life seems to be depending on it. "Youth of America" itself is a nightmare locomotive, a ten-minute chug through a persistent rhythm, screeching/careening/wailing guitars, and jarring psychedelic effects. The remaining five songs, which don't lessen the intensity very much, are solid in their own right and are generally more tuneful than the title track. The version of Youth of America to own is actually located on disc two of the three-disc Wipers Box Set, released in 2001 by Sage on his own label, Zeno. Since it runs at the cost of a single CD, there's no financial risk whatsoever. It's also remastered and corrects the completely bungled track order listed on the Restless edition. ~ Andy Kellman Wipers Youth Of America Songs | 1. | Taking Too Long | |

Youth Of America CD music
$22.95 Bjork has always been one to follow her muse, and after 2004's MEDULLA, a foray into the sonic avant garde, one had to wonder if she would continue following it straight into the abstract outer limits. But 2007's VOLTA marks something of a return to pop form for Bjork. Not to say that the album is conventional by any stretch--it's still Bjork, after all--but there is greater evidence of her pop sensibility than on any album since 1997's HOMOGENIC.
The album's first single, "Earth Intruders," is a case in point. An exhilarating tribal stomp boasting production by Timbaland and clanking orchestration from the Congolese ensemble Konono No. 1, the track is a stunning opening salvo. VOLTA offers other moments of hip-shaking thunder ("Innocence"), alongside more melodic, contemplative fare such as "Wanderlust" and "The Dull Flame of Desire," which features the gorgeous voice of Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons. Varied, engaging, and wildly imaginative front to back, VOLTA is another remarkable release from one of pop's reigning geniuses.
Coming off the heels of her quirky, but no less enjoyable for it, 2007 album VOLTA, Icelandic songstress Bjork has released the multi-disc box set VOLTAIC, a deluxe package filled with VOLTA-related live recordings, remixes, videos, and concert tour highlights. Available in no less than five different packagings, including single disc, multi-disc, and multi-disc plus vinyl configurations, there is enough Bjork material on offer here to please even the most diehard fanatic.
Leave it to Bjork to make a live album set that can be treated as part of her regular body of work rather than ...
| | Bad Company Vinyl LP (1974) Remastered
Youth Of America music CDs
$22.89 THE ORIGINAL BAD CO. ANTHOLOGY includes several previously unreleased tracks including four tracks recorded in 1998.
Recorded between November 1973 and November 1998. Includes liner notes by John McDermott.
Digitally remastered by Steve Croxford, Jack "Jacko" Adams, and Walter Coehlo
1974's BAD COMPANY laid the groundwork for much of the mainstream hard rock that would dominate FM radio and album sales in the 1970s and '80s. In contrast to the expansive canvases of psychedelic music and the virtuoso excesses of prog rock, Bad Company's debut stripped the blues-rock model down to its essentials, playing muscular, amped-up power chords over driving 4/4 beats. Though the singing of vocalist Paul Rodgers (who had previously been in the blues-based band Free) has a rather flat affect, it is powerful and distinctive, meshing perfectly with the bluesy riffs of guitarist Mick Ralphs.
The tightly structured songs are cut from similar cloth, but the exuberant "Can't Get Enough," the snarling "Bad Company," and moody, spectral "Ready For Love" provide enough variety to keep things interesting. The gentle "Seagull," though uncharacteristically introspective for the band, is one of Rodgers/Ralphs's finest compositions. Subsequent Bad Company albums would rework the same basic themes, but BAD COMPANY, the group's opening salvo, was their defining work. It remains a classic of straightforward, blues-based rock.
Bad Company's formation in 1973 signaled the arrival of a blues-rock supergroup. Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke ...

Youth Of America songs
$26.55 When M. Ward, Mike Mogis, Jim James, and Conor Oberst announced plans to record together, fans were quick to link the supergroup to the Traveling Wilburys, who blazed a similarly star-studded path 20 years prior. Truth be told, Monsters of Folk's emphasis on harmony vocals and atmospheric arrangements has just as much in common with the work of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, even if the political concerns that grounded the latter group are largely absent here. Instead, the self-titled MONSTERS ...
