After having lived on/off in both Washington DC and San Francisco for more than 8 years, Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Gustav Niepoort, definitively returned to his native Denmark in 2002 with the intend to form a band. Here he teamed up with childhood friends, drummer/programmer, Janus Dyg and bassist Peter Binau Hoej and quickly began recording what was to become Niepoort’s first EP. Two EP’s and one full length album later, the trio has garnered favorable reviews in Denmark and build a loyal following. Where Niepoort’s music, LIVE, is raw and energetic, with concerts lasting as long as 4 hours, Niepoort’s latest studio album “Serpentine” is a meticously recorded and produced affair.Denmarks largest music magazine, GAFFA, wrote about ”Serpentine”“The production is excellent, with guitar riffs as the cutting musical base, Gustav Niepoort’s voice dark and hypnotic on top, while the keyboards (synths and organs) add a cinematic dimension, without ever dominating”Adding “The album spans from night-electro on Balance, to a dramatic semi-futuristic Bowie inspired Pioneers, to the anthem Chalk farm…a thorough release”Although Niepoort’s music have touched many genres trough the years, the music created by the trio can best be described as folktronica infused artrock with a decisive groove - Impressive sly drumming, catchy dubby basslines, cutting guitars and sonic landscapes with Gustav Niepoort’s impressive baritone vocal and poetic lyrics always present on top. Apart from creating music on their own, the band runs its own music studio in Copenhagen, The Keiner Niemand Facility, as well as its own record label, Free Movement records. niepoort Serpentine Songs | 1. | Nothern Womb |

Serpentine album
$11.19 Often, supergroups wind up dominated by one particular personality - think Eric Clapton in Derek & the Dominos, Jack White in the Raconteurs -- which makes the egalitarianism of Them Crooked Vultures all the more remarkable. Of course, when it comes down to it, it's a group of three natural-born collaborators: John Paul Jones, the old studio pro who gravitated toward provocative partners after Led Zeppelin's demise, teaming up with R.E.M. as easily as he did with avant-queen Diamanda Galas and nu-folkster Sara Watkins; Dave Grohl, who hopped into an empty drummer's chair whenever the opportunity presented itself; and Josh Homme, who set up a mini-empire based entirely on jam sessions. If Them Crooked Vultures brings to mind Homme's projects ...

Serpentine songs
$11.19 I HAD THE BLUES BUT I SHOOK THEM LOOSE, debut by heavily heralded Brit teenage band, is a sleek, polished, balanced listen made up of the kind of punchy, angular, brooding-vocals-and-pounding-bass indie rock that brings to mind Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party. "Dust on the Ground" finds the band at its most similar to Franz Ferdinand: a prickling blast of lead singer Jack Steadman's tremulous caterwaul, some blissed-out reverb guitars, and a punchy hook. The band truly shines, though, when it edges into more playful territory, specifically on the Vampire Weekend-esque "Always Like This." Heartfelt songs such as these allow I HAD THE BLUES to stand out as something more than just another take on the angular, moody, post-punk-influenced sound.
