| Wonderful Performances
Outstanding performances throughout. It must take incredible technical and emotional control to perform sound art pieces such as these. Five stars for the players. The Feldman piece, of course, moves along slowly and quietly, and is quite mediative. The Babbit piece is more enegetic, angular and dramatic, but does not itself move along that quickly. If correlated with the contemporary visual artists of their time, Feldman's work would be akin to viewing a Rothko panel painting and Babbitt's akin to viewing a Pollock drip painting with alot of slashing, splashing, and a bit of smearing. I don't think these compositions represent the best of these composers, but they do challenge the listener to discover the many interesting and beautiful nuances within.
