On TEA TORNADO, Marmoset's collision of super-simple melodies and cryptic charm remained as mysterious as ever, though the oddness is slightly downplayed. The sprightly, snotty "Written Today," "Hallway"'s Anglophile garage rock, and the darkly catchy "Come with Me" are all remarkably direct, providing guideposts for the stranger moments that inevitably follow. A fruit motif runs through some of the album's best songs, if only tangentially -- "Strawberry Shortcakes"' irresistible start-and-stop bassline and vaguely threatening singsong vocals make it a quintessential Marmoset song. On "Peach Cobbler," Whittaker seems to boil longing down to its purest essence, singing "You are pretty, you are strong and you are funny" before slipping into absurdity: "And I am the boy who found you/And turned it into peach cobbler." He sounds just as devoted on the chiming "You, Blueberry Muffin." Yet not all of TEA TORNADO's weirdness is writ large. "Toy" and "Gretchen" are whispery yet angular, with just enough strangeness to keep from disappearing entirely. A decade into the band's career, Marmoset was still an enigma, wrapped in a riddle, shrouded in mystery. Marmoset Tea Tornado Songs Tea Tornado Review

Tea Tornado album
$14.45 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered ...
| | Them Crooked Vultures CD (2009)
Tea Tornado CD music
$11.17 Often, supergroups wind up dominated by one particular personality - think Eric Clapton in Derek & the Dominos, Jack White in the Raconteurs -- which makes the egalitarianism of Them Crooked Vultures all the more remarkable. Of course, when it comes down to it, it's a group of three natural-born collaborators: John Paul Jones, the old studio pro who gravitated toward provocative partners after Led Zeppelin's demise, teaming up with ...

$16.45 Philadelphia-based Three Legged Fox became a fixture on the eastern rock circuit after winning the University of Delaware's 2006 Battle of the Bands -- their first performance. The ensuing three years have seen 3LF expand their regional fan base as far east as Massachusetts, as far west as Ohio, and north to south from New York to North Carolina, performing regularly at scores of top venues. ...
| | Bjork Volta CDs (2007) With DVD; Deluxe Edition
Tea Tornado album
$41.99 Bjork has always been one to follow her muse, and after 2004's MEDULLA, a foray into the sonic avant garde, one had to wonder if she would continue following it straight into the abstract outer limits. But 2007's VOLTA marks ...

| | Chip Taylor Yonkers Ny CDs (2009) Digipak
Tea Tornado music CDs
$12.89 As a songwriter, Chip Taylor has never seemed to be able to rest on his considerable laurels. Since his return to music in 1996, he's made a series of roots music records, including those with Carrie Rodriguez and Kendel Carson, that have all been critically acclaimed. YONKERS, NY, a double-disc set, may be his most ambitious album to date. Nearing 70, Taylor writes a lot about the past here as he looks back on his life and times in that little suburb just north of the Bronx where he and his brothers -- actor Jon Voight and geologist Barry Voight -- grew up, and reveals some family secrets along the way. The band includes guitarist John Platania; Greg Leisz on pedal steel, mandolin, and dobro; bassist Tony Mercadante; pianist and accordionist Seth Farber; Carson on fiddle; and drummer Tony Leone -- and the music is drenched in classic Americana: folk, country, and rockabilly. On the 11-track set, Taylor recounts his adventures musically and, in some tracks -- such as the opening "Barry Go On (Put Yourself on the Mountain)" and "Bastard Brothers" -- he recounts spoken stories. There are brief written commentaries on the songs in the deluxe hardbound lyric and photo booklet as well.
