Widescreen; Soundtrack English; Blue Ray HD-DVD Director Craig Brewer follows up his unexpectedly well-received pimp drama, HUSTLE AND FLOW, with this stylish tale of the unlikely connections that are forged when a lost soul attempts to cure a young nymphomaniac of her wicked ways. Set deep down south in a small Tennessee town, the film is titled after and largely driven by the force of blues music. Pulsating with color and bold cinematography, the story forms a visual counterpart to a blues ballad. When divorced ex-musician Lazarus (Samuel L. Jackson) finds Rae (Christina Ricci) badly beaten by the side of the road, he brings her to his house and chains her to his radiator. Rae has been a wreck since her boyfriend (Justin Timberlake) went off to war, and has spent her time getting into fights and being taken advantage of by just about every man in town. Rae appears to be afflicted with a physical need for sex that no one can cure. As Lazarus watches Rae twitching with pain on his couch, he sees that the young woman's only chance at redemption is in his hands.
While the premise is outlandish, and the film opens itself up for much moral criticism, BLACK SNAKE MOAN has its merits. Deliciously colorful, the film aches with rhythm and dances visually with its subjects. Whether fetishizing Christina Ricci's emaciated body, or making Samuel L. Jackson look years older than he is in real life, the cameras do their job well. Both Ricci and Jackson offer strong performances that mark turning points in their careers. BLACK SNAKE MOAN seems less concerned with how it will be judged than with embodying the sexuality and passion of blues music. No matter how many viewers the film may offend, it succeeds in creating a world that vibrates with desire and raw energy. Theatrical Release: March 2, 2007 Black Snake Moan Reviews: 3 stars out of 4 -- "The film is carried to significant degree by Samuel L. Jackson....The new lean/mean Ricci may remind you of Susan Sarandon."-- Mike Clark, USA Today 4 stars out of 5 -- "Sweaty, dirty and grimy it may be, just like the music that powers it, but underlying BLACK SNAKE MOAN is a rather sweet story."-- James Mottram, Ultimate DVD "[Ricci is] the white-hot focal point of Brewster's loud, brash, encompassing vision of the soul's dark night survived, peering into the dawn."-- Nathan Lee, Film Comment "The blues here plays the role of an elemental force that can summon our deepest fears and rankest desires....[A] provocative picture..."-- Glenn Kenny, Premiere "[I]t's a film filled with sly pleasures....It marks Brewer as a much more interesting filmmaker..."-- Ray Greene, Box Office Black Snake Moan | List Price | $22.98 (You save $6.33) | | Studio | Paramount Home Entertainment | | Orig Year | 2007 | | All Time Sales Rank | 147024 | | CD Universe Part number | 7969627 | | Catalog number | 7907260 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Jul 21, 2009 | | Rating | R (MPAA) | | Running Time | 115 Minutes | | Additional Info | Widescreen; Dubbed; Subtitled | | Movie Details | Widescreen; Dubbed; Subtitled |
Black Snake Moan Movie Review Play it again Sam This movie is not for everyone, that's for sure. For those who can accept life as it really is and can be, it's fantastic. Ricci should have won an award and Sam Jackson is like always having an award around. He's great in this film as he always is. I can see how the picture on the DVD box would turn a lot of people off and those people need to open their minds and see a great film. Impressive So I rented this movie not really knowing what I was getting into. Must say after it was over, I loved it! It wasn't at all what I expected & found myself intrigued with the storyline. Christina Ricci was brillant once again, loved Samuel L. Jacksons characters & am loving the movie choices of Justin Timberlake. I think this movie really hit home as in people having their own issues & finding people who you would at least expect to help you get to where you need to be. I would reccomend this movie to everyone, but watc h with an open mind & be surprised! Submitted by lw (Iowa) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

Surprisingly a really good movie I wasn't sure what to think of this with title being strange, but at the end I found I really liked the movie. I would recommend it. Christina Ritchie reminds me of Resse Witherspoon in "Freeway." This movie makes me file like I'm down South amongst the hicks. Good movie! I'd buy this film, because Christina Riccis HOT!!! Anyway's,I liked the movie alright.I did think it was a bit racist though at times. What with the comparison's to the private sizes. Also I think us white people should get a white snake moan, and have a white guy do it with a black chick. After all it is what they did on this film, only in opposite, and that shouldn't bother black people at all right.
Anyway's in the end it had a alright ending, although this movie remind's me of the Keeper with Asia argento alot.Other than that,I'm gonna buy me a copy,I mean Christina Ricci half naked in chain's how can you go wrong??? $36.49 Based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley, 300 takes over the screen like an invading horde. With all the gushing blood of a horror movie and the scope of a classic epic, the second film from Zack Snyder (who helmed the 2004 remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD) is an impressive visual spectacle. Gerard Butler (THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA) plays Leonidas, the king of ancient Sparta. The city is famous for its warrior philosophy, and Leonidas won't kneel to the demands of Persia's King Xerxes (LOST's Rodrigo Santoro). Instead, Leonidas leads his 300-strong army against Xerxes's army of millions. Meanwhile, his wife (Lena Headley, THE BROTHERS GRIMM) campaigns in Sparta for the city to send reinforcements as she butts heads with the treacherous Theron (Dominic West, THE WIRE).
With its gore and scale, 300 marks director Snyder as a possible successor to Peter Jackson's throne. Jackson also got his start in horror with BAD TASTE and DEAD ALIVE, ...

$31.09 French auteur Jean-Luc Godard continues his fascination with the crime genre--after BREATHLESS and BAND OF OUTSIDERS--with PIERROT LE FOU. After escaping his stale, bourgeois marriage, Ferdinand Griffon (Jean-Paul Belmondo), a man on the run, encounters a captivating woman, Marianne (Godard's then-wife, Anna Karina). Striking up an immediate connection, the two begin a freewheeling affair that leads them to the Mediterranean Sea. There's one slight problem, though. Marianne is being pursued by a group of bloodthirsty mobsters who have chased her out of Algeria. ...

Black Snake Moan movie DVD
$31.19 A landmark in film history, EASY RIDER blew the studio doors open for more young directors than any film before or since, helping to create the wide-open climate that would lead to the production of many outstanding films in the 1970s. As its director, Dennis Hopper is usually given the lion's share of credit for the film's success, but the revelations of time suggest that the contributions of the late Terry Southern and, to some degree, Jack Nicholson have endowed the film with much of its residual power.
Starring Peter Fonda as Wyatt (alias Captain America) and Hopper as Billy, it traces the hippie duo's adventures ...

Black Snake Moan video
$36.49 After its run as a West End hit in London, MAMMA MIA became a Broadway smash when it opened in New York back in 2001. With a story framed around the music of the Swedish pop band Abba, crowds loved its raucous, dance party vibe. Now it comes to the silver screen, with some truly delightful performances from the likes of Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan. It is the story of Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) a young woman living on a picturesque Greek island with her mother, Donna (Streep.) Together, Donna and Sophie run a ramshackle island inn, and they are in the midst of preparing for Sophie's wedding. As the wedding approaches, Sophie becomes troubled by the fact that she has never known her father. She was the result of one of her mother's summer flings, and her mother has never revealed her father's identity. When Sophie stumbles upon her mother's diary, she learns that there are three possible men who could be her dad. Without telling her mother, she invites all three to her wedding. When Harry (Colin Firth), Sam (Brosnan), and Bill (Stellan Skarsgard) all arrive at the same time, Donna is of course shocked and overwhelmed by seeing her old lovers again after such a long time. She turns to her two best friends, Tanya (Christine Baranaki) and Rosie (Julia Walters), for their support, and vows to just get through the wedding and weekend. Meanwhile, Sophie spends time with each man, determined to learn the truth.
Major hijinks and confusion ensues, all amidst the utterly romance ...
