Evacuate The Dancefloor album
$14.79 An extended live set that concluded Yngwie's reign as one of the premier guitar heroes of the 80's. The set is comprised of many of his "hits" along with his two legendary guitar performances, "Black Star" and "Far Beyond The Sun." There is also a self-indulgent, cliché-infected guitar solo that must have excited every thirteen year old in the building. Malmsteen's playing on this set is decent, but time has not been good to this recording. It was recorded during the heyday of Hair Metal and the genre's influences can be heard throughout this session. The weak Pop songs that plagued Malmsteen's releases after Rising Force mar too much of this session to recommend it to anyone who is not exclusively infatuated with guitar pyrotechnics or 80's Metal. ~ Robert Taylor
Recorded at Leningrad SKK Stadium.

| | Enigma Voyageur (Deluxe) CD (2003) Special Package
Evacuate The Dancefloor songs
$11.55 In 1991, if any musical artist seemed a candidate for one-hit wonder status, it was Enigma. Not that "Sadeness Part 1" displayed any lack for talent, but the hit was certainly unusual. Worthy of his nom du disc, Michael Cretu released the bizarre, sexually charged Gregorian chant-driven New Age dance song under veils of mystery. Journalists speculated about his identity, as the song ignited controversy in country after country, topping the charts in most of them and going into top 5 in the United States.
Enigma has proven to be enduring and deservedly so, as his odd hybrid concoctions are simultaneously inventive and engagingly poppy. The fifth album, VOYAGEUR, finds Cretu continuing this tradition, bringing together elements of world, electronica, house, and New Age, rarely slipping into cliches of any genre. Ruth-Ann from Olive contributes vocals on the infectious dance-floor number "Boum Boum," which is followed by the artful classical-meets-Peter Gabriel "Total Eclipse of the Moon," with Cretu's now-familiar voice handling the vocal duties. Never faltering into sameness, VOYAGEUR shows why Enigma has become a reliable listen in an ever-changing musical world.
Recorded at A.R.T. Studios, Ibiza, Spain.
Personnel: Sandra Cretu, Matthew Herren, Michael Crétu, Andru Donalds (vocals).

| | Yello Claro Que Si CD (1981) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Digipak
Evacuate The Dancefloor CD music
$10.45 Yello made almost made techno-noir an early-'80s catchphrase, but their music was too adventurous, even for the hardcore techno aesthetes of that decade. CLARO QUE SI, the follow-up to the enigmatic SOLID PLEASURE, revels more in the dance floor, and begins the logical progression towards the arch-synthpop Yello would champion years later.
Many of the tracks here are arcane classics of the form: the weird and zippy "Daily Disco," probably best experienced in a club on Saturn; the mutant beatbox antics and shuffling, factory-bred electronics of "The Evening's Young," sporting one of Dieter Meier's most evocative, Grand Guignol vocals; and the backward loops of "The Lorry," Meier spitting out his words into a soup of metallic strings and tungsten-scored electronics. Just about as indispensable as SOLID PLEASURE, especially if your toes are set for tappin'.

| | Nazz 13th & Pine CD (1998)
$13.49 A collection of odds and sods; rarities and obscurities, 13th & PINE is designed for the obsessive Todd Rundgren collectors out there, and, in that sense, it satisfies, since there is a lot of weird, unheard music here. Still, this is a collection primarily of small pleasures, lacking revelations or forgotten gems--it's just simply another way to dig deeper. That's not a bad thing, but it does mean that it's not essential for those outside of the obsessives.

| | Tj Whitelaw Electric Echoes CD (2009)
$12.69 TJ Whitelaw picked up the guitar at age 11 and has been mesmerizing crowds with his unique improvisational style ever since. A teenage guitar sensation, he has compiled an 8 track all original instrumental EP which offers a diverse sampling of sounds to appeal to guitar lovers everyone. From the funky blues sound of DAS KOOL to the epic and melodic ELECTRIC ECHOES title track TJ displays his versatility in each genre. Metal enthusiasts will enjoy the hard rock sound of EGYPTIANS LAST KISS and CHOCOLATE THUNDER; both tunes featuring his crazy speed metal chops. For the nostalgic side of rock we suggest FEED THE FIRE, DREAM SUITE, or BARRICADE. These tunes are reminiscent of the earlier days of R&R where guitar solos were considered to be the glue that held the song together. SPANISH INTERLUDE is a South American style piece that again explores TJs unique range and ability as a percussionist on the Conga drums. TJ is grateful to a number of amazing musicians who contributed their talents to this album including: Michael Fonfara (Downchild Blues Band), Gary Taylor (Sisters Euclid), and of course the incomparable Terry Brown (Rush producer) who mixed the title track Electric Echoes. TJ is a composer/ performer/ session guitarist hailing from Canada. Visit him at www.tjwhitelaw.com
