Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) the king of pop lives! I received the much anticipated collection. I was not dissapointed. 5 great albums all in one collection. What a great way to celebrate his life as we mourn his death. I was just 17 when Thriller came out. I took my album to college that fall and jamming to it became one of my fondest collegiate memories. I am jamming to it once more...as a middle agedd woman of 44!! A welcome retrospective, but missing key material It was nice to have a chance to buy the bulk of the late Michael Jackson's adult solo work in one package-- and to hear material I'd never heard before. My one regret about this album is that it's regrettably incomplete. For some reason, while "Off the Wall" and "Bad" are presented in their special editions with bonus tracks (including "Streetwalker," a great song and one of Jackson's best works), all we get of "Thriller" are the nine songs from the original 1982 LP. And the biggest missing item is the second disc of new material from Jackson's 1996 two-CD set "HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I" -- which contains much of his most interesting and controversial late material. (The omission is even more annoying because the currently in-print version of "HIStory" has been cut down to a single CD and includes only the greatest-hits collection on the original disc one.) Still, this box -- issued to take advantage of Jackson's projected return to live performance in London in July, and instead inevitably coming across as a memorial box -- is a welcome collection and a good way to get the bulk of Jackson's output at a reasonable price (and it's nice to be reminded of what great ear candy "Off the Wall" and "Thriller" actually were!).
