Got Nuffin album
$19.25 After the initial shock fades, the existence of CHRISTMAS IN THE HEART seems perhaps inevitable. After all, the thing Bob Dylan loves most of all are songs that are handed down from generation to generation, songs that are part of the American fabric, songs so common they never seem to have been written. These are the songs Dylan chooses to sing on CHRISTMAS IN THE HEART, a cheerfully old-fashioned holiday album from its Norman Rockwell-esque cover to its joyous backing vocals. Apart from the breakneck "Must Be Santa," which barrelhouses like a barroom, Dylan doesn't really reinterpret these songs as much as simply play them with his crackerjack road band, dropping in a little flair -- restoring "we'll have to muddle through somehow" to "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," singing the opening of "O Come All Ye Faithful" in its original Latin -- but never pushing tunes in unexpected directions. Many would argue having Dylan croon these carols is unexpected enough and, true, there are times his gravelly rumble is a bit pronounced, but nothing here feels forced, it all feels rather fun, provided you're on the same wavelength as latter-day Bob, where the sound and swing of the band is as important as the song, where there's an undeniable nostalgic undertow to all the proceedings. And, of course, there's no better time for celebratory sound, swing, and nostalgia than the holidays, ...

| | Baroness Blue Record Vinyl LP (2009)
Got Nuffin music CDs
$26.49 Georgia-based psychedelic rock band (calling them a metal act seems very reductive, though there's some seriously headbangable material on this disc) Baroness has made a subtle but unmistakable evolutionary leap on this, their second full-length and a clear companion piece to 2007's RED ALBUM. It's hard to say exactly what new guitarist Pete Adams has brought to the band after replacing drummer Allen Blickle's brother Brian, but the band's established blend of Southern sludge riffs, druggy instrumental journeys, and melodic interstitial interludes, all propelled by a particularly thudding drum sound and held together by John Baizley's hoarse ...

| Sleep Dopesmoker Vinyl LP (2003)
Got Nuffin album
$16.29 Subtle is not a word that could ever be applied to Northern California doom-metallists Sleep. DOPESMOKER, a record with a backstory almost as interesting as the album itself, is about, oddly enough, smoking dope. Lots of it, all the time. There are other metal/prog lyrical themes here, too, but in general, this is a long, loud salute to the demon weed. That Sleep managed to make this album on a major label's dime is utterly amazing, although turning it in cost them their deal and the album was released in a frustratingly chopped-up form as 1999's JERUSALEM. That experience caused the band to split, and many wondered whether the original recording would ever see the light of day. Thankfully, this bass-heavy, droning opus--which features lead singer Al Cisneros (later of Om) growling like an angry hound--was issued by Tee Pee Records in 2003. As a favor to fans, the reissue ends with a 10-minute-long bonus track intended to be a palate cleanser after an hour of stoner dirge.

Got Nuffin music CDs
$36.89 Bassist Ray Brown's 1985 trio (featuring pianist Gene Harris and drummer Mickey Roker) is heard in fine form throughout this swinging set. In addition to five standards and Brown's own blues "Captain Bill," there are a couple of unlikely but successful selections: Tyree Glenn's "How Could You Do a Thing Like This to Me" and "Love Me Tender." Although there is actually only one blues among the eight numbers, Gene Harris infuses all of the selections with the feeling of the blues and consistently steals the show. ~ Scott Yanow
(2-LP Set) Another classic Concord Ray Brown Trio album with the peerless Gene Harris on piano. This 1981 live recording has sonics close to that other audiophile must-have Soular Energy. The LP dynamics will challenge many analogue front ends. Cut by th

$15.45 THE MOLLUSK contains a hidden track after "She Wanted To Leave (Reprise)."
Ween can be as slimy as a giant squid or as hard to crack as a clam, but the mollusk that Ween most resembles is an octopus--with a tentacle in every genre and an obfuscating cloud of black ink thrown in for good measure, once they grab a hold of you with their suckers, they don't let go. Ween's sixth album, THE MOLLUSK not only ensnares you with its sinewy melodies, it gobbles you whole.
Ween have followed the country madness of 12 GOLDEN COUNTRY GREATS with a true return to form. The eclectic, genre-hopping style of PURE GUAVA and GOD WEEN SATAN blossoms again, and songs like "Buckingham Green" and "The Blarney Stone" find Ween straddling the line between '70s arena-rock heavy metal ballads and bawdy 19th century Irish drinking songs. While not as overtly puerile or as heavy as some of their earlier material, THE MOLLUSK has its share of memorable moments and is destined to become a true Ween classic.
Ween: Gene Ween, Dean Ween, Andrew Weiss, Claude Coleman, Mean Ween, Glenn McClelland, Charlie McClelland, Bill Fowler, George Altonen, Matt Kohut, Stephan Said.
