| | Hangmen Also Die! DVD (1943)
Best Of David Sanborn CD music
$22.09 Fritz Lang's HANGMEN ALSO DIE is a grimly atmospheric noir thriller and a vehement commentary on Nazi terror and betrayal. The film focuses on a gunman hiding out with the Resistance in Prague after the 1942 assassination of Hitler henchman Reinhard Heydrich, known as the Hangman. Loosely based on a true story, Lang's film is a terse and melodramatic portrait of mass resistance and Nazi brutality. From the assassination scene--reminiscent of TOUCH OF EVIL--in which Franz Svoboda (Brian Donlevy) gets help from the underground ...
| | Donald Byrd Places And Spaces CD (1975)
Best Of David Sanborn music CDs
$8.85 Recorded on August 18, 20 & 25, 1975. Originally released on Blue Note (549).
Reuniting with Larry Mizell, the man behind his last three LPs, Donald Byrd continues to explore contemporary soul, funk, and R&B with Places and Spaces. In fact, the record sounds more urban than its predecessor, which often played like a Hollywood version of the inner city. Keeping the Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield, and Sly Stone influences of Street Lady, Places and Spaces adds elements of Marvin Gaye, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Stevie Wonder, which immediately makes the album funkier and more soulful. Boasting sweeping string arrangements, sultry rhythm guitars, rubbery bass, murmuring flügelhorns, and punchy horn charts, the music falls halfway between the cinematic neo-funk of Street Lady and the proto-disco soul of Earth, Wind & Fire. Also, the title Places and Spaces does mean something -- there are more open spaces within the music, which automatically makes it funkier. Of course, it also means that there isn't much ...
| | Johnny Mathis That's What Friends Are For CD (1978)
Best Of David Sanborn songs
$5.19 Also available in 3-pack with YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE and BETTER TOGETHER: THE DUET ALBUM.
Recorded in 1978. Originally released on Columbia (35435). Includes liner notes by Ellis Widner.
Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams made a fine team on this collection of sentimental love songs and light pop ballads. They had had previous success on the title track, which had been included on her first release, so they opted for a full session. They had a moderate hit with a cover of "You're All I Need To Get By," and they also reworked Stevie Wonder's "Until You Come Back To Me (That's What I'm Going To Do)." It peaked at Number 19 on the pop chart, and actually proved Williams' most consistent album from a sales standpoint. ~ Ron Wynn
The 1978 duet album That's What Friends Are For was far more of a highlight in Deniece Williams' career than it was in Johnny Mathis'. Nonetheless, it's well-done, lightly likable late-1970s adult contemporary R&B music, the two sparring sweetly and respectfully on upbeat, radio-friendly, easy listening soul tunes and romantic ballads. Gene Page's arrangements are pretty (and effectively) understated for the genre, and though the record doesn't boast any heavyweight classics, it did land a small hit with their cover of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's "You're All I Need to Get By." The 2003 CD reissue adds four ...

Best Of David Sanborn music CDs
$9.09 Debi Derryberry Website BioIn addition to her successful career as one of Hollywood’s most active voice-over artists, multi-talented kids’ entertainer Debi Derryberry is passionate about writing and performing in front of live audiences. “Not a day goes by,” Debi says, “when I don’t think about a new verse, or melody, or idea for a story that I’d like to share.” Probably best known as “the voice of Jimmy Neutron,” Debi is very excited about her latest creative endeavor: the delightful preschool children’s character, “Baby Banana.” The inspiration for “Baby Banana” comes from a bedtime story Debi’s husband made up for their young son. The character first appeared in a calypso-themed song on her children’s CD, 2006’s award-winning “What A Way to Play,” that rose to number one on Sirius Radio. Debi is touring extensively in 2009, entertaining kids and grown-ups with songs and stories about “Baby Banana,” his “Daddy Gorilla” and “Momma ...
