Memphis Belle Movie Review We have got to drop our bombs in the pickle barrel! This line in the movie always disturbed me. Here we have a pilot that in now the lead plane in a formation of b-17 bombers, all bombing on his command. After already flying once on the bomb run the target in covered with clouds. The formation has alreadt lost planes and he is concered about collateral damage. I understand that they would have had a important target to hit, but to risk the lives of American Airmen in an effort to limit collateral damage seams so foolish to me when a watched the movie and the whole crew is saying to the pilot commander lets drop the bombs and get the hell out of here, I was with them. I think the movie had a good plot but was a little slow and I was a little bored by the end. The forshadowing of the earlier plane not getting its landing grear down was obvious that was going to happen latter in the film!!! Intense flying film Even though the special effects are kind of crappy for an early 90s film,it still manages to be good entertainment. Submitted by Blake (Brandon,MS) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
Enjoyable Flick In my humble opinion Memphis Belle is a very entertaining movie. All the actors do a tremendous job but special honors go to D B Sweeney who plays the navigator who believes this last mission of the Memphis Belle will be his waterloo. He can't shake the feeling that his time is up, and he will not survive. He becomes obssessed with trying to give his possessions away to his crew mates. You actually care about these characters and by the end of the movie you feel as if you are part of the crew. Some critics point out gaffes in the movie. Well, every movie has mistakes made in them, and I say so what! The only gripe I have is the part of the dialog in which the crew talks about trying not to cause civilian casualities. This concept is out of place in a WWII movie where winning the war was the object not worrying about civilians being hurt or killed. That unique concept is for modern era warfare not back in WWII. Other than that I have no quarrel with the script. The actors are believeable, the story is good, and the movie is enjoyable to watch and leaves you with a good feeling. That's what movies are all about. Submitted by Karen (Little Rock, Arkansas, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
Could have been a good story... This had the possibility of being a good WWII story. It had plenty of content and character to build upon. But, it spent way too much time on what was an attempt at character development. It was slow moving and boring at times. The language was more suited for an R rated film. Once it finally got to the 1 and only mission actually portrayed it started to get interesting, but, it was too late to recover. Submitted by a reviewer (Medford, OR, USA) Was This Review Helpful? EVANGELION 1.0: YOU ARE (NOT) ALONE is the first installment in a film series known as the Rebuild of Evangelion that reinterprets the story first told in the critically acclaimed anime series NEON GENESIS EVANGELION. Covering the material from the first six episodes of the series, this film sets the stage when 14-year-old Shinji Ikari arrives in Tokyo-3. His mother dead and his father painfully distant, Shinji is lonely, quiet, and wracked with torturous self-doubt. But Shinji's arrival in the city signifies his chance to prove himself as one of three teenagers chosen to pilot a series of technologically unprecedented robots called Evas, mysterious hybrids of man, spirit, and machine created to fight the unrelenting monsters known as Angels that continue to attack Earth, one at a time. Thrown into battle before he's had so much as a day of training, Shinji's desperate need for his father's approval isn't helped by the pressure of the world's survival on his shoulders, or the difficult time he has living amongst the other pilots, who very strangely, have suffered the same losses that he has. EVANGELION 1.0: YOU ARE (NOT) ALONE directly follows the plot of the original series in some ways, but drastically diverges in others, focusing even more on the cryptic and symbolic nature of the story's religious themes.
