Black & White; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English This WWII film was the first to use a ballad as a thematic element, a practice which, after HIGH NOON, would become a cliche of the 1950s. The film stars Dana Andrews as Sgt. Tyne, one of the officers leading an attack on a farmhouse in the Italian countryside which functions as a German stronghold. When the ranking officers are killed soon after the platoon lands on the beach, Tyne must take over. He leads his men along an ill-defined road toward the farmhouse while the company is periodically strafed. As they walk, each character has his own preoccupations: Windy (John Ireland) writes mental letters to his sister, Rankin (Chris Drake) talks lovingly about his "baby," his submachine gun. But there is one phrase all share: "Nobody dies." As they approach the farmhouse, Sgt. Ward (Lloyd Bridges) takes a scout patrol across the field with fatal results for two of his men. After he blows the only bridge to the farm, the rest of the platoon moves in for the final assault. One of the best WWII films, A WALK IN THE SUN combines documentary-like sequences with a sharp awareness of the isolation of each soldier in the midst of battle.
The setting is WWII Italy, with Dana Andrews starring as Sgt. Tyne, one of the officers leading a platoon in an attempt to take a farmhouse in the Italian countryside, which is now a German stronghold. As the troops prepare to attack, they contemplate the lives that have led them to this place and think about how to most effectively do their jobs. The men repeat their mantra, hoping it will be a talisman: "Nobody dies."

Walk In The Sun Movie Review  A classic war film
After 60 years this film remains a masterpiece in its genre, strong, direct and almost documentary. The actors are fantastic. The copy is fair with a clear soundtrack, but there is a portion missing in the last part of the movie. Highly recommended.

Walking into History
A truly stunning film, cleverly underplayed by the cast ; none of them turned into the "star" at the expense of the rest.
I could watch this over again more than once, and I think I would still find myself deeply involved in the storyline, because the cast became so real.

"A Walk In The Sun" puts you in the WW2 soldier's boots. This movies deals with the mental trauma that the soldier learns to deal with in combat. Great acting and superb combat action! Highly recommended!!

This two-CD compilation, assembled from the Walker Brothers' three albums and various singles released by Philips between 1965 and 1967, gives a good overview of their U.K. history without limiting itself to their hits. The sound quality is good if not exceptional -- one gets the sense that another round of remastering would be in order (and while we're talking about sound, wouldn't one like to see a Mobile Fidelity reissue on the Walker Brothers or, for that matter, Scott Walker's best solo stuff?). And the track order isn't chronological -- their two best-known songs, which were not their first two U.K. singles -- occupy the opening two slots on disc one. So this set is lacking in some attributes that one would, ideally, like to se. On the other hand, all of the songs that one would like to see are here somewhere, and the annotation is thorough if not extensive. For anyone starting a collection of the classic Walker Brothers' material, this set -- which also carries the subtitle "My Ship Is Coming In" -- is a great place to start and finish, assuming that one doesn't wish to own everything that they did during ...

Christmas and the blues might seem at first like a strange combination, given that the music of the holiday season is usually joyful, hopeful, and bright, but no other time of the year is so good at showing you what you don't have, and what you can't get, and if you have the blues at Christmas, well, it's going to be a pretty heavy dose. This generous two-disc set from Document Records features 52 tracks of vintage African-American Christmas-themed blues and gospel pieces (with a couple of street sermons thrown in) recorded between 1925 and 1955, ranging from down-and-out laments and jailhouse moans to surprising (and occasionally risqué) requests for what Santa can bring down the chimney. Highlights on the first disc include the opening track, the joyous "Christ Was Born on Christmas Morn," recorded in 1925 by comedian and female impersonator Frankie "Half Pint" Jaxon; Harry Crafton's "Bring That Cadillac Back" (a Cadillac might not be the best gift if your girlfriend likes to ramble) from 1947; Tampa Red's amazing, ringing slide guitar tone on "Christmas and New Year's Blues" from 1936; and the bizarre, disturbing field recording of "Junior's a Jap Girl's Christmas for His Santa Claus," sung by Willie Blackwell for Alan Lomax in Arkansas in 1942.
