Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; Amaray Case Young Luke and his grandmother, on vacation in England, have just checked into a hotel. Also in the premises is the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, a false moniker that hides the fact that the organization's members are really evil-minded, mask-wearing, child-hating witches! And they have all gathered to discuss a most fiendish plot: to turn all children into mice, by feeding them poisonous chocolate. Luke overhears the heinous plans when he eavesdrops on the women, but unfortunately they capture him and turn him into a mouse. Unlucky Luke must scurry back up to his room -- without getting killed -- and alert his grandmother of the witches' intentions, before it's too late. Then, the neophyte rodent must find a way to become human again... A nine-year-old boy and his grandmother discover adventure when they encounter the Grand High Witch and her diabolical plot to turn all of England's children into mice. Based on the story by Roald Dahl. This was the great Jim Henson's last producer credit. Witches Reviews: "...Amazing effects...A wicked, high-style treat....Angelica Huston triumphs..."

Witches Movie Review Witches - A great movie! The witches is a great movie for kids of all ages, especially those who loved the Roald Dahl book. It starts with a boy (Luke) and his grandmother talking about how to spot a witch and the things that have happened in her home village in Europe. As the story continues Luke meets a witch and recognises that she is one by the description given to him by his grandmother, needless to say the good always win in the end, so I won't give away too much of the storyline, except to say that they meet the grand high witch and she isn't very nice! She wants to turn all the children of England into mice!! My children and I have been looking everywhere for this movie and finally we got to see it, I will recommend it to everyone who likes children (and witches) just so they are able to spot what a real witch looks like! Wicked Good Time This is a great movie based on the Roald Dahl story. Anjelica Huston is perfect as the grand high witch, both evil and sexy at the same time, she appears to have used training from her days as a model for the role. Mai Zetterling is great as the loving Norwegian grandmother who aids her grandson in his battle against the witches. Submitted by tintin84105 (Woods Cross, UT, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Nicholas Roeg and Henson This is basically a children's movie directed by Roeg with some effects by Jim Henson. The effects are largely secondary but when they are utilized, they work very well. The film is not bogged down with them as with other Henson films.
It has a creepy quality that balances the 'kiddie' factor out nicely. It is a great looking film as well. Anjelica Huston is great, as is the wise grandmother (can't remember the actress's name). It had been quite awhile since I saw it (in a theatre), but it was great to watch again even on the small screen.

Another Roald Dahl Masterpeice!!! Roald Dahl's book gets transfered onto big screen with brilliant results... This Dark Fantasy tells the story of a 9 year- old boy who he and his Grandmother who try to save the world from an evil covern of witches... I love the way Roald Dahl protrayed wittches not as woman who fly on broomsticks and wear pointed hats and act like pratts, but as female demons with black magic... Away from London and under the care of a strict housekeeper, they are instructed to stick to themselves and stay out of trouble.
