Oxford’s Inspector Robert Lewis (Kevin Whately), protégé of the legendary Inspector Morse (John Thaw), and his brilliant, brooding partner, Detective Sergeant James Hathaway (Laurence Fox, A Room with a View, Island At War) are back with four twisting new thrillers, and this time their personal connections to their work threaten to expose more than a killer.

And the Moonbeams Kiss the Sea: Lewis and Hathaway find themselves trying to untangle a web of art, forgery, and black-market antiquities trading when a local gambler is found murdered in the basement of Oxford’s Bodleian Library and Nell Buckley, a young student artist, is murdered a short time later. But what role does the Romantic poet Shelley play in both cases, and who stood to profit by keeping him, or Nell, quiet?

Music to Die For: When RG Cole, a university lecturer specializing in German history and head of the Wagner society, is found dead, Lewis and Hathaway are brought in to investigate what looks like a burglary gone wrong. But after first looking into the shady world of bare knuckle boxing, Lewis turns elsewhere when the ghost of his mentor, Inspector Morse, makes an appearance, sending Lewis and Hathaway into the depths of Berlin’s Stasi archive.

Life Born of Fire: What drove the devout Will McEwan to take his own life in St. Mark’s Church? The only clues for Lewis and Hathaway are an old photo, an obscure quote, and a blood-spattered pamphlet for a religious group—The Garden. Though The Garden is shrouded in secrecy, its founding members have been identified, and they are being murdered. When forensics identifies the killer as a young man who disappeared years ago and had been long thought dead, Hathaway is forced to face his own demons to make sense of the evidence.

The Great and the Good: A young girl is found wandering the Oxford plains with no memory of how she got there or who attacked her. Although the prime suspect provides an airtight alibi, he is brutally murdered and the girl’s father is arrested with blood on his boots. Lewis doubts everything about the case, from the murdered man’s perfect alibi to the father’s seeming confession, and though he is thwarted when his investigation starts to focus on some very prominent Oxford players, the promise that this case might hold some answers to his wife’s death is too much to let go.

Allegory of Love: When an unidentified young woman is found brutally murdered by the riverbank, Lewis and Hathaway step into a case steeped in Oxford’s whimsical history of fantasy literature, with perhaps a touch of political intrigue. Faced with murder weapons inspired Lewis Carroll and C. S. Lewis, and clue pointing to an ancient Iraqi city, the pair turns their attention to a new young storyteller, Dorian Crane, and struggle to understand how his rocketing fame may have affected his place in his College—and at home.

The Quality of Mercy: Lewis and Hathaway go behind the scenes of a student production when Richard Scott, a rising star of the Oxford theater scene, is found murdered backstage. With no one mourning the unpopular, arrogant young man in debt to half of Oxford, the list of suspects appears to be quite long. But when Amanda Costello, an ex-student and theatre critic in town to review the show, is found murdered on opening night, Lewis must look closely to determine just what—or who—connected the two victims. Meanwhile, Hathaway is distracted by an unexpected lead on a cold case.

The Point of Vanishing: Lewis and Hathaway are called in to investigate the vicious murder of a young man found scalded and drowned in his own bathtub. They identify the victim as Stephen Mullan, a born again Christian who had served time for his attempt to murder prominent atheist Tom Rattenbury—an attempt that instead left Rattenbury’s daughter in a wheelchair. From the very start of their investigation, however, something feels off, and soon the case has the pair spinning in circles, thwarted by instances of mistaken identity, cryptic academic clues, and the tragic consequences of unrequited love. And when a promotion in the department catches Hathaway’s attention, will Lewis be able to count on him to focus, and help catch a killer?

THE GOLDEN COMPASS is an adaptation of the first book in the beloved but controversial fantasy series by Phillip Pullman. The story opens with Lyra Belacqua (Dakota Blue Richards) an orphan girl who lives in an alternate world that is similar to earth, but where people's souls exist outside of their bodies in animal form. The people are ruled by a shadowy and oppressive council known as the Magisterium, which is doing it's best to keep everyone from getting information about what is called "Dust." Lyra's Uncle Asriel (Daniel Craig) has been researching Dust, and he has seen to it that Lyra is given safe shelter at Jordan College. But when the visiting Mrs. Coulter (Nicole Kidman) arrives, she asks Lyra to accompany her on a trip to the North to meet the Panserbjorne, a race of armored bears. Before Lyra leaves, the Headmaster gives her a golden compass, a device which only she can read, and from which she can intuit the truth. Lyra leaves with Mrs. Coulter, but when she learns that her friends have been kidnapped by "Gobblers," she heads out to find them, and soon joins forces with the nomadic Gyptians, some witches, and an armored bear called Iorek Byrnison (voice by Ian McKellen). Lyra finds her friends, and so discovers the evil plans the Magisterium has cooked up for the world's ...
