Import seven inch vinyl pressing of this 2009 split single featuring The Shills and Ten City Nation. The Shills are a bunch of school friends from a nondescript Cambridgeshire village, whose antidotes to the dreariness of modern life has been described by the NME as "melodic songs with great rhythm, matched perfectly with intelligent lyrics". Gigging like madmen, Ten City Nation have toured with NME darlings We Start Fires and had high-profile supports for Artrocker favorites Untitled Musical Project and Popular Workshop. Repeat. Split Single album
$16.75 Often, supergroups wind up dominated by one particular personality - think Eric Clapton in Derek & the Dominos, Jack White in the Raconteurs -- which makes the egalitarianism of Them Crooked Vultures all the more remarkable. Of course, when it comes down to it, it's a group of three natural-born collaborators: John Paul Jones, the old studio pro who gravitated toward provocative partners after Led Zeppelin's demise, teaming up with R.E.M. as easily as he did with avant-queen Diamanda Galas and nu-folkster Sara Watkins; Dave Grohl, who hopped into an empty drummer's chair whenever the opportunity presented itself; and Josh Homme, who set up a mini-empire based entirely on jam sessions. If Them Crooked Vultures brings to mind Homme's projects more than Grohl's or Jones', it's largely due to his role as lead vocalist ...

| | Devendra Banhart What Will We Be Vinyl LP (2009) Bonus Tracks
Split Single songs
$27.75 Setting aside the grand orchestrations of Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon, Devendra Banhart's What Will We Be is everything its predecessor was not: straight-forward, cleanly produced, consistently laid-back (to nearly Jack Johnson proportions), and free of ambition. Banhart enlists the same band as last time (Noah Georgeson, Greg Rogove, Luckey Remington, and Rodrigo Amarante), but hired production whiz Paul Butler, whose records with A Band of Bees are some of the most striking productions of the 2000s. The double-tracked vocals give the album the same air as Banhart's early four-track experiments, but there's no haunted quality, just an occasional hippie-dippie aside in his delivery. Recorded in Northern California, What Will We Be often has the same slacker sensibilities and scent of ocean breeze that Jack Johnson has made his name with (read: funky white-bread basslines and closely miked drums played with plenty ...
| | Ry Cooder Mambo Sinuendo CD (2003)
Split Single album
$14.79 MAMBO SINUENDO won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album. "Patricia" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.
Ry Cooder, the guitarist/composer/arranger behind the Buena Vista Social Club and numerous film scores (JOHNNY HANDSOME, PARIS, TEXAS), is back with a suave collection of tunes infused with more of the sinuous rhythms from Cuba. Just as we are comfortably settling into the seductive feel set up on the opening track, "Drume Negrita," enter Mr. Cooder's languorous pedal steel and we are transported beyond the south-of-the-border to a place both exotic and intriguing. On this set, Cooder is teamed with the leader of the popular 60'S and 70's group Los Zafiros, Manuel Galban. Galban and Cooder trade tasty and occasionally quirky riffs that put their distinctive guitars front and center. The mutual admiration these artists have for one another exudes a contagious ...

Digitally remastered by Ray Staff & Bob Whitney (Whitfield Street Studios, London, England).
If punk rejected pop history, LONDON CALLING reclaimed it, albeit with a knowing perspective. The scope of this double set is breathtaking, encompassing reggae, rockabilly, and the group's own furious mettle. Such a combination might seem over-ambitious, ...
