After a stint in prison, Arkin (Josh Stewart) finds employment as a handyman. But, in the type of bad decision-making that’s common among horror-film protagonists, Arkin decides to rob his boss in order to repay his ex-wife (Daniella Alonso). Venturing to his employer's remote country-house to make the heist, he soon finds himself--as well as the boss’s family--at the mercy of The Collector. This masked menace turns the house into a maze of fiendish traps, and only Arkin’s wits offer any hope of escape from gruesome death. THE COLLECTOR is the directorial debut of screenwriter Marcus Dunstan, whose previous credits include FEAST and SAW IV. This bloody, visceral entry in the "torture porn" genre will no doubt please fans of his previous films’ shock-and-awe stylings. Collector Reviews: "The film enjoys an actual plot....With its plot and lead performance, THE COLLECTOR is, at least, an unusual specimen."-- Michael Ordona, Los Angeles Times "THE COLLECTOR is a surprisingly stylish and confident high-concept thriller..."-- John Anderson, Variety Collector | Studio | Freestyle Releasing | | Orig Year | 2009 | | CD Universe Part number | 7979843 | | Release Date | New Collector TR release date | | Rating | R (MPAA) | | Rating Reason | for pervasive sadistic bloody violence, language and some sexuality/nudity. |

$12.89 Steven Spielberg's masterful adaptation of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel stars Whoppi Goldberg, in her impressive screen debut, as Celie, a sharecropper's daughter living in rural Georgia. The film opens in 1909 when Celie is a young girl, a victim of incest, pregnant with her father's child. Ugly and unloved, separated from her children and her sister, Celie's only option is marriage to an abusive, philandering husband (Danny Glover) who treats her little better than a slave. Her life changes forever when her husband brings his mistress, a beautiful blues singer named Shug (Margaret Avery), into the house. THE COLOR PURPLE was also the film debut for Oprah Winfrey, who beautifully plays Celie's sister-in-law, Sofia. THE COLOR PURPLE was nominated for 11 Academy Awards (including one each for Goldberg, Avery, and Winfrey) but surprisingly won no Oscars, and although the film was nominated for a Best Picture award, Spielberg was snubbed by the academy and was not nominated for Best Director.

$62.89 Hot-tempered, self-centered, part-Irish Southern beauty Scarlett O'Hara, played to the teeth by Vivien Leigh, loves the gentlemanly Ashley Wilkes (Leslie Howard). Smug, rebellious, honest, blockade-running profiteer Rhett Butler, portrayed gracefully and naturally by Clark Gable, loves Scarlett. Ashley, who is also in love with Scarlett, marries his genteel cousin Melanie (Olivia de Havilland) because he believes that their quiet similarities will create a better marriage than Scarlett's passion. Meanwhile, sparks fly between Rhett and Scarlett at their first encounter and continue throughout Scarlett's first two marriages. Scarlett and Rhett finally wed, but Scarlett continues to pine for her beloved Ashley. Set against the Civil War and Southern Reconstruction, this tragic love quadrangle offers the burning of Atlanta and fields of wounded Confederates as part of its lush scenery. Meticulous backdrops, glorious sunsets, numerous silhouettes, and the ultrasaturated Technicolor film create a hyperreal vision. The romantic score is every bit as lush and dramatic as the photography, borrowing folk melodies from the Old South to make the tragic war concrete. Heavy nostalgic tones pervade the often witty dialogue and larger-than-life charms and faults of the leads. GONE WITH THE WIND stands among the greatest epic dramas ever filmed.

| | Rock-afire Explosion
Collector review
For many children of the 1980s, the best birthday parties were held at Showbiz Pizza Place. It wasn't the Skeeball or Pacman that was the draw; it was the animatronic band the Rock-afire Explosion. But for some, the fun didn't end when the restaurants closed and the robotic musicians were dismantled. THE ROCK-AFIRE EXPLOSION follows the band's most ardent fans and collectors as they try to re-create their best childhood memories by reuniting the group.

One wouldn’t necessarily expect to find what might be the world’s third-largest film industry--after Hollywood and India’s Bollywood--in the heart of West Africa. But, believe it or not, business is booming in Nigeria, where filmmakers tend to cater to the cultural appetite for short and blunt melodramatic productions that hinge on a somewhat self-referential unifying concept: "the collision of traditional mysticism and modern culture." Documentary filmmakers Ben Addelman and Samir Mallal capture an industry that’s rarely been glimpsed outside of so-called "Nollywood."

To the uninitiated, kickball may seem like a game reserved for kids. However, the Chicago hipsters in this documentary prove that it’s a sport for rebellious adults as well. Though LEFT FIELD initially focuses on Chicago’s unofficial kickball league, it transforms into a film about a close-knit community that is shaken by an accident that takes down one of their own.
