Chevelle's SCI-FI CRIMES, the hard rock trio's fifth album, isn't so much a change of pace as it is a change in source material from which to draw the group's fiercely dynamic sound. Experiences in the lives of the band made it easy for lead man Pete Loeffler to boldly go in a new direction with his songwriting. Take "Highland's Apparition," for instance, which is based on a spooky occurrence at a haunted house, or "Roswell's Spell," inspired by a visit to the UFO Museum in New Mexico. Other songs are less off the wall and more right on target. First single "Jars" explores the down side of "going green" in typical Chevelle style. "Letter from a Thief" is perhaps the most personal tale on the album, written about an incident when the band's equipment was stolen during a tour stop. Let's just say the experience hasn't yet been forgiven and forgotten. This is most certainly the same band that draws frequent comparisons to Tool, with its crunchy guitar attack and Loeffler's unforgettable vocal delivery. But it's their ability to pull off such flippant tales with their characteristic punch that gives SCI-FI CRIMES a humanizing appeal not found on their previous records.

Upon first listen, got the "Meh" feeling. But after more listens, has grown on me (like their last one did). Wonder What's Next and This Type of Thinking hooked me from the start and are still my faves of the five. This album seems to have mixed elements of all their albums, while still progressing forward. And even if it is not their best, it still beats over half the crap out there touting itself as Hard Rock. If you are a Chevelle fan, trust that they are still heavy and vital. After a few listens for this one...

 catchy songs
I've been hooked ever since I listened to it the first time. I think its their best album by far. Lots of heavy stuff with good vocals. Great transitions in the songs. Kinda reminds me of 3 Days Grace type sound with a different singer.

Another great cd cant say that about all bands. Chevelle has cosistently put out great cds at a time when you cant get a cd with understandable lyrics. i like some screamo as much as the next guy but theres no intelligence in its songwritting . chevelle rocks ( i do miss the brother aspect though)

Amazing as always!!
Chevelle is a band that is consistently good unlike a lot of their peers, and they have proved with every album.. and this is no exception!

This is DEF. not their best CD by far. It almost seems rushed and the music isn't just "chevelle". Im disappointed.
