| | Rodrigo Y Gabriela 11:11 CD Rodrigo Y Gabriela Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
The very first moments of Rodrigo y Gabriela's sophomore effort, 11:11, hit the listener cold in the face, and not just because of the amazing guitar playing. Sure, it's there, but it's what anyone who heard the duo's astonishing debut would expect. No, it's the sound of the record: immediate, forceful, crystalline; it's in-your-face compelling and impossible to ignore. 11:11 features 11 new compositions, dedicated to 11 musical artists (not all guitarists, either) who have had an influence on the duo. Recorded in Ixtapa, Mexico, the set was self-produced with the exception of two cuts, which were co-produced with John Leckie. Throughout, Rodrigo y Gabriela showcase their metal chops as part and parcel of their Mexican guitar heritage. They've not simply melded the two, but have created an entirely different form of music for the acoustic guitar in the process. It's infectious and accessible, full of pathos, intensity, passion, and color.
Audio Mixer: Colin Richardson.
Arranger: Rodrigo y Gabriela.Spin (p.86) - "11:11's most affecting moments -- the title track and `Logos' -- come when the duo's time signatures slither into a stalagmite-strewn prog-metal cave." Q (Magazine) (p.116) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero have honed their dazzling virtuosity....[These are] fluid yet percussive tunes also impossibly nimble." Paste (magazine) (p.54) - "Rodrigo Y Gabriela offer today's best exposition of the pyrotechnic, fusion-oriented edge of Spanish-style guitar-playing." 11:11 Music | List Price | $15.98 (You save $3.89) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, World CDs, International, Latin Pop, Instrumental, Latin, Guitar, Rock | | Label | ATO (USA) | | Orig Year | 2009 | | All Time Sales Rank | 33733 | | CD Universe Part number | 7980171 | | Catalog number | 80 | | Discs | 2 | | Release Date | Sep 08, 2009 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Engineer | Jeff Rose | | Recording Time | 45 minutes | | Personnel | Alex Skolnick, Farah, Strunz | | Additional Info | Digipak |

11:11 album
$8.55 This 30th Anniversary Edition is a re-recording of Arlo Guthrie's 1st album.
A product of the hippie/protest movement of the mid-'60s, Arlo Guthrie, son of perennial folk icon Woody Guthrie, found himself with not so much a hit as a whole movement on his hands with the eponymous 18-minute saga of his arrest for littering and its deleterious effect on his chances of being selected for active duty in the Vietnam War. "Alice's Restaurant" may have lost some of its counter-culture appeal over the years, but its story of blinkered officialdom is as relevant today as it was when it was first performed.
Though few of the other cuts match it in terms of sheer hummability, ALICE'S RESTAURANT contains several understated high points, notably "Highway in the Wind" and "I'm Going Home," both fine examples of mid-'60s folk pop. "The Motorcycle Song" is another instance of Guthrie's talent for constructing almost childishly simple yet fiendishly catchy melodies, a skill he obviously inherited from his father.
The cassette release is part of Rising Son's 25th Anniversary Edition series.

| | Robert Plant Raising Sand CD (2007)
11:11 music CDs
$14.69 Those who find the pairing of '70s rock god Robert Plant with contemporary bluegrass queen Alison Krauss unlikely have probably not been paying attention to Plant's latter-day work, which is full of intimate, acoustic-flavored balladry. While the organic-sounding, low-key Plant/Krauss collaboration, RAISING SAND, is a far cry from Led Zeppelin's stadium rock, it offers up some hauntingly moody textures that should appeal to "Battle of Evermore" admirers.
Consisting mostly of sagely chosen cover tunes, the album finds Plant and Krauss bringing their warm-but-eerie harmonies to everything from Townes Van Zandt's nihilistic folk poetry ("Nothin'") to the ...

| | Short Stack Stack Is The New Black CD (2009)
11:11 songs
$32.59 Even by the relatively light standards of contemporary teen-friendly pop, sometimes one has to wonder how a band found stardom or success. Australia's Short Stack fit that bill with their debut, Stack Is the New Black. The trio borrows heavily from America's modern emo and teen punk bands -- Panic at the Disco, My Chemical Romance, possibly Good Charlotte. However, they do so without finding or retaining the redeeming qualities of their influences. Instead, they write simplistic hooks and simplistic lyrics with the occasionally disturbing content for shock value ("kill your boyfriend, we can be together"), and throw in enough hamfisted Auto-Tune to try to balance out the equation a bit. Without a stronger set of compositions, however, the production can't save the album. The trio's performances are dominated by frontman Shaun Diviney, with a handful of basic synth, guitar, and piano riffs and a basic rhythm guitar looped in, as well as a vocal delivery that seems to have more affectations than original content. Drums are held up capably though unmemorably by Bradie Webb, and bassist Andy Clemmensen is nearly never heard through the high-treble mix. This band is clearly reaching for stardom, but seems to be reaching more on the basis of attitude than on music -- it may have worked for the Sex Pistols, but the punk-lite Short Stack are no Sex Pistols. ~ Adam Greenberg

| | Mccabes Dark Before The Dawn CD (2005)
11:11 CD music
$9.85 The McCabes have been around for six years. We have played about a thousand gigs, most of the earlier ones in bars, many of the recent ones at festivals. We are very popular in New York. People have been known to get very drunk while listening to our band; don't know why but that's a fact. That's why bars are always calling us up.They kow folks will buy a lot of beer. We enjoy playing bars but we really like playing festivals; it's the smell of the grass and the sound of the birds in between sets, and hanging out with other bands on the bill. Makes you realize why you got into playng music in the first place. 'Dark before The Dawn' is our third cd, recorded in one day. You might be able to hear that while you listen; I would call the sound on this cd rough but spontaneous. I think Paddy's Day is one of my best songs. It's a description of the vibe in NYC on Paddy's Day. The last song, 'Wish I didn't but I do (love you)' is also one of my better songs, in my opinion. It describes the love/hate relationship that existed betwen my girlfriend (now fiance) and I at the time. Sometimes you don't want to be with someone but you have no choice. It's kind of like that ...
