Import Blu-Ray/Region A pressing. Screen sensation Nicole Kidman delivers an utterly unforgettable performance in this scary and stylish suspense thriller. While awaiting her husband's return from war, Grace (Kidman) and her two young children live an unusually isolated existence behind the locked doors and drawn curtains of a secluded island mansion. Then, after three mysterious servants arrive and it becomes chillingly clear that there is far more to his house than can be seen, Grace finds herself in a harrying fight to save her children and keep her sanity. Acclaimed by critics everywhere, the unpredictable twists and turns of this compelling hit will keep you guessing as it keeps you riveted to the edge of your seat!

THE OTHERS begins with a close-up of a woman screaming. By the time this intense film ends, everyone watching it will be screaming and gasping. Nicole Kidman stars as Grace, a woman raising two children by herself in a creepy mansion. World War II is over, but Grace's husband never returned. Meanwhile, the two children, Anne and Nicholas, must constantly stay in the dark because they are deathly allergic to light. Then one day three people show up to take over for Grace's disappeared staff, and trouble starts to brew. The odd trio--an aging nanny, an elderly gardener, and a young mute girl--seems to have a slightly different agenda than Grace and the children do. But when Anne starts talking to strange, unseen people, the scares start building to an incredible climax. Alejandro Amenábar's highly stylized English-language debut is one of the better haunted-house films of the past few years. Not only did Amenábar write and direct the film but he composed the eerie music as well. Nicole Kidman is outstanding as the overprotective mother trying to save her children, while Fionnula Flanagan excels as the nanny with a deep, dark secret. Because the children must remain in darkness, Grace must lock every door behind her, to make sure that the children don't accidentally enter a brightly lit room; it is a marvelous horror-film device that Amenábar uses to perfection.

Theatrical release: August 10, 2001

5 stars Great Film, Ho-hum Extra
The single-disc version is the one to get, because in the two-disc set, the second disc is loaded with repetitive and boring material. Still, this is a wonderful film and well worth owning, especially if you like ghost stories. The premise is similar to “The Sixth Sense,” but this is a much more stylish film, and Nicole Kidman proves beyond all doubt that she has the acting chops to match her beauty. The pacing is slow, but never tediously so, and Kidman’s character, Grace, is very well developed. Fionnula Flanagan turns in a subtly disturbing performance as the housekeeper/nanny. The children, too, are quite impressive, considering the complexity of the emotions they are called upon to convey. They suffer from Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP for short), an extremely rare but frighteningly real disease where exposure to sunlight causes third degree burns to the skin. We never see the effects of the disease in the film, but the fact that the very idea of the effects of XP are so horrific adds to the tension. While the special effects mostly consist of computer-generated fogs and mists, they contribute immensely to the overall effect of the film. More unsettling than out-and-out scary, “The Others” can still induce some dandy nightmares, so although it is only rated PG-13, I would strongly recommend that it not be viewed by younger children – Heck, my little sister is 42 years old and she had bad dreams for a week after watching it. I give the film 5 stars, but the two-disc set only warrants four.

4 stars Great suspensfull and watchable supernatural horror flick
This movie is a prime example that you don't need blood and guts to make a movie scary as hell. Nichole Kidman did a great job with her role and she once again proved that she is the greatest Australian actress of all time. A really great suspensfull and chilling thriller that always keeps you on your nerves and keeps you thinking.

5 stars Best Horror Movie Since "The Haunting"
Not since the original version of the movie "The Haunting" has a film come along that contains superb scares, psychological terrors and an atmosphere just dripping with pure horror. Get ready to jump out of your seat numerous times, don't watch it alone, and be prepared for one of the most surprising endings of a film to come along in quite some time. Don't look for computer generated scares; this is an old-fashioned film which relies more on characterization and surroundings to frighten and surprise. If you see only one horror movie this year, make this your #1 choice!

5 stars The Others
The movie gives out chills like no other movie i have ever seen the SIXTH SENSE is similar and excellent but does not give you as much of a shiver down your spine, forget gore, blood, stupidity and bore as other movies give out instead settle for 2 hours of pure frights. THIS IS LIKE NO FILM YOU WILL EVER COME CLOSE TO SEEN. there is one scene i jamp onto the person next to me because i got such a HUGE fright. YOU MUST SEE THIS before all the others

WAR-GODS OF THE DEEP: An unusual science fiction adventure set not in the future, but in the past. It is 1903 and just off the Cornish coast lives an undersea kingdom of humanlike creatures who never age. The ruler of this strange society sees a woman on land who looks like the reincarnation of the ruler's deceased wife. This sets off a chain of events that eventually bring the human world into battle against this underwater community of the past. Memorable for its creative sets and creepy gill man warriors, this drive-in classic is based on a line from an Edgar Allen Poe work and is sprinkled with references to Poe throughout. Tab Hunter, wearing gigantic scuba gear similar to a robot costume, ...

As the third installment of the X-Men series opens, the world has entered a relatively peaceful period for mutants. There's a mutant-tolerant president of the United States, a blue furry mutant named Beast (Kelsey Grammer) heading up the Department of Mutant Affairs, and Magneto's shape-shifting femme fatale, Mystique, has been captured. The tranquility is shattered by two events. Worthington Laboratories, using a powerful mutant boy, develops a serum that eliminates the "mutant X gene" permanently. This so-called "cure" quickly divides the mutant community; Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and his school are willing to give the government the benefit of the doubt, but Magneto (Ian McKellen) and his mutant ...
