Additional Footage; Soundtrack English; English Subtitles; Director's Comments Frank Langella's acclaimed Broadway characterization as the famous count is effectively repeated on the silver screen in director John Badham's film. This stylish production of the classic gothic horror tale has Frank Langella repeating his electrifying, award-winning stage performance as the blood-thirsty count, and Laurence Olivier as his arch-nemesis, the devout vampire hunter, Van Helsing. High atop a foggy seaside cliff lies a foreboding asylum, home to the doctor (Donald Pleasence) who runs it, and his beautiful and free-spirited daughter, Lucy (Kate Nelligan). The doctor and Lucy have taken in Mina (Jay Francis), a weak and sickly young friend of Lucy's, whom they are attempting to nurse back to health. On a dark and gloomy night, a torrential storm ravages their coastal home and a ship crashes to its doom on a nearby craggy shore. The only survivor of the shipwreck, is a seductive and mysterious young man named Dracula (Frank Langella). The debonaire count charms the willing and nubile Mina, who is soon discovered dead from mysterious causes. In horror, her father is contacted and Van Helsing arrives in haste, only to discover the real identity of the suave and beguiling count, just as he has picked his new bride, the lovely Lucy. This fabulous John Badham-directed adaptation of the classic tale combines camp, a superbly atmospheric score by John Williams, and a remarkable ensemble cast for a wildly seductive horror spectacle. The film is based on the hit Broadway production, which also starred Frank Langella as Dracula. Dracula Quotes/Excerpts: "No, thank you, I never drink...wine."--Dracula (Frank Langella) to others at dinner. Dracula Movie Review The best version ............ Langella's is my favourite version of the Dracula story. This film is a classic and worth having on dvd for repeated viewing. The dvd is limited but has the minimum requirements - besides, it is pretty cheap as far as dvd's go !! Submitted by nicholas.rhodes (Paris, France, Europe) Was This Review Helpful? Mesmerizing! Saw this years ago on TV and thought it the best of all. My husband raved about Louis Jordan playing Dracula. I watched it on DVD and it is NOT as good as the Frank Langella version. Even the ending was scary! Submitted by Lynn (Zigzag OR) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
great movie I saw it years ago at the movie theater. I love good vampire movies not so bloody, not so violent but with suspense and class. Frank Langella portrait a classy and sexy Dracula. This is one of the best versions of the story. Submitted by rsmitch (Florida) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
Dracula 1979, Frank Langella I bought this on Dvd because I never had got the chance to see the movie completely on late night television . I must say this is The "BEST" Dracula film I have seen in a long , long time . And Frank Langella's Dracula is sensually seductive and passionate! If you are a hopeless vampire / Dracula film fan this film would be for you . And especially true if you are a hopeless romantic and long to see Dracula in a not so cold - hearted way . This film also packs in some good , really gross bloody scenes . But it is well worth the buy . And for those of you whom maybe new to seeing Frank Langella reprise his prior stage role for this film , even better . I would highly recommend this film . Frank Langella's lead role of Dracula was something new to me when I seen this movie all the way through . Be forwarned though , some of the scenes in this movie maybe gross for some to view , like the violence and some slight gore . But the love scenes with Mina and Dracula are very sensual and has alot of erotic undertones to it as well . I also liked and loved the fact that Frank Langella's eyes didn't turn into those contact lense weird colors either like you see in just about every vampire and / or Dracula film of today . I also enjoyed that Frank Langella's Dracula was exceedingly handsome too . An excellent movie!!! I rate this 5 ++++++++ Stars ! Frank Langella is such a sexy Dracula . The Dvd description says it best tho, " Dracula has filled the hearts of men with dread , and women's hearts with desire ." Submitted by Jane (Los Angeles , Calif, USA) Was This Review Helpful?
