| | Johnny Paycheck Hero Of The Working Man CD Johnny Paycheck Discography of CDs
A notably tumultuous personality in a genre known for unruly characters, Johnny Paycheck spent his career alternating between jail (on charges ranging from bouncing checks to aggravated assault), and the rarified heights of the hit parade, where his successes included David Allen Coe's "Take This Job and Shove It" and his own "Apartment Number Nine," written for Tammy Wynette. HERO collects "Take This Job..." and nine other hits, including his Merle Haggard-like version of "I'm the Only Hell My Mama Ever Raised" and his heartfelt "Me and the I.R.S.," both of which he makes sound at least semi-autobiographical. | | Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Speed Of Life CD (2009)
Hero Of The Working Man CD music
$15.05 Speed of Life is the first studio album by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in five years and celebrates the group's 43rd anniversary with three of its original members still intact (and no, the number 43 was not a typo). It also finds them reduced once more to a quartet with the departure of multi-instrumentalist Jimmy Ibbotson. That said, the band has lost none of its immediacy, power, or expert presentation of both original material and songs from some of Nashville's finest. Released by Sugar Hill Records (who distributes their NGDB Records imprint), the group recorded the set live in the studio. Produced by veterans George Massenburg and Jon Randall Stewart, this set sounds inspired, fresh, and like the NGDB has been utterly rejuvenated. It combines the old-/good-timey feel of their ...

| | Band Of Heathens One Foot In The Ether CD (2009) Digipak
Hero Of The Working Man CD music
$12.95 As you might expect from a group fronted by three singer/songwriters, the material on One Foot in the Ether is uniformly strong. The band's principals -- Colin Brooks, Gordy Quist, and Ed Jurdi -- all share writing and publishing credits, and since all three play several instruments, the album boasts a diversity of sounds and styles. The first thing that strikes you is how many of these tunes sound like gospel music. Given the name of the band, it's a real surprise. "Shine a Light" is a mellow, call-and-response number with churchy organ, stinging slide guitar, and an uplifting lyric. "You're Gonna Miss Me" is a blues with a gospel tinge, although the lyric is strictly secular. An odd, stuttering, New Orleans backbeat supplied by drummer John Chipman and rousing group vocals make the track take fire. "Let Your Heart Not Be Troubled" is a love song with a strong hint of gospel and a deep spiritual feeling, a heartfelt ...

Hero Of The Working Man music CDs
$18.99 Love & Learn is an exciting new CD from Janet McGarry. It marks the 7th recording by our reigning Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Association’s Female Vocalist of the Year, a title Janet has held for the past four years, in addition to several other awards and nominations she has received for her music.Love & Learn shows a new side of Janet as she branches out musically and explores new sounds, but the essential elements stay the same. It keeps the qualities that make her albums recognizable, as when you hear her music played on the radio, immediately you can pick out her honest and true voice. The album kicks off with a great up-tempo song penned by Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger and Keith Richards called “No Expectations”, a rare bluegrass feat. The album flows with a common thread of “hurtin’, kinda love-gone-bad” songs with a “your love is gone, but you know I’m doing alright” theme, to collections of deep songs that tug at the heart strings and are sung for the soul of the listener, particularly an original song penned by new band mate Ryan Roberts called “Nobody Home”. There are also original songs handed to Janet which were written by Tom T & Dixie Hall and Louisa Branscomb in particular who wrote the Alison Krauss classic “Steel Rails”.This album was produced by Serge Bernard, who also handled much of the instrumentation and harmony vocals. Also joining them on this project is Troy Engle, from Nashville, TN. Troy became a great acquaintance and collaborator whom Janet first met at the International Bluegrass Music Awards & Convention as he had co-written the very first song she received from Tom T. & Dixie Hall “Lord it’s a Hard Road Home” recorded on her all-Gospel project. “Not only is Troy a great songwriter but as you will appreciate, he provided absolutely fabulous takes on our songs. Talented at virtually any instrument with strings, Troy possesses a natural and rare instinct enabling him to listen to a song, pick up his instrument and play so skillfully and soulfully what it needs...with feel to spare. Roxeen & Ryan also contributed great vocals ...
