Baionarena album
$8.99 Lágrimas Negras (Black Tears) is a collaborative effort between the octogenarian Cuban piano master Bebo Valdés and the reigning Spanish flamenco cantador, Dieguito El Cigala. Recorded for Fernando Trueba and Nat Chediak's Calle 54 label, the sessions took place in Madrid between September and December 2002. Maestro Valdés (born in 1918), the father of the jazz pianist Chucho, has a long history as an innovator in Cuban music. He recorded the first Afro-Cuban jazz session in 1952, and was a tutor to the great bandleader Beny Moré, writing early charts for him. Valdés is also a world-class arranger. Dieguito El Cigala was born in 1960, and has become the undisputed king of Spain's flamenco singers. This recording features nine tracks that meld together cooking son, jazz, Afro-Caribbean, and flamenco rhythms, in tunes by composers such as Lolita de la Colina, Virgilio and Homero Expósito, Ramón Perelló, the grand team of Tom Jobim and Vinícius de Moraes, Caetano Veloso (who makes a guest appearance), Maria Teresa Vera, Miguel Matamoros (who composed the title track), and others. Most are Cuban ballads. Guests such as Veloso, Paquito D'Rivera, Pancho Terry, Tata Güines, and El Niño Josele fall by on different tracks. And while the tunes are top-shelf and the guests make this a very special and historic occasion, it is the unusual dynamic and the integrity with which it is employed that makes this set so unique. ...
| | Juanes Un Dia Normal CD (2002)
Baionarena CD music
$6.69 "A Dios Le Pido" won the 2002 Latin Grammy Award for Best Rock Song.
UN DIA NORMAL won the 2003 Latin Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year and won for Best Rock Solo Vocal Album. "Es Por Ti" won for Record Of The Year and for Song Of The Year. "Mala Gente" won for Best Rock Song. The album was also nominated for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album.
Refusing to play the Latin pop crossover game, Colombian singer-songwriter Juanes returns with UN DIA NORMAL, a second solo album sung entirely in Spanish that manages to kick the idea of sophomore jinx square in the jewels. Teaming up with Rock En Espanol production kingpin Gustavo Santaolalla, the former Ekhymosis frontman delivers a pleasing fusion of folkloric and contemporary pop-rock nuances ranging from the jangly nugget "Desde Que Despierto" and rock steady cadence of "La Paga" to the crisply delivered vallenato "Luna." Other highlights include the crisp shuffle "Luna," bossa-nova-kissed "Es Por Ti," and infectious cumbia-infused "A Dios Le Pido" (which earned Juanes a Latin Grammy for Best Rock Song).
About the only concession Juanes makes to courting crossover success is "Fotografia," a ballad with Nelly Furtado, a native Portuguese speaker who does well in switching gears to sing in Spanish. With Juanes drawing from such a broad palette of music, UN DIA NORMAL expands the boundaries of Rock En Espanol to the point where these kinds of varied approaches will hopefully someday be the norm.

| | Marc Anthony Sigo Siendo Yo CD (2006)
Baionarena music CDs
$12.19 Although best known to the tabloids as the husband of hyphenated superstar diva Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony has maintained a steady fame among Latin music fans for his strong-but-sensitive persona and dynamic vocals. Ignoring the trio of English-language albums released during the short lived "Latin explosion" of the late 1990s (except for a Spanish-language version of 2000's "You Sang To Me"), SIGO SIENDO YO is a well-chosen selection ...

Baionarena songs
$7.75 35 ANIVERSARIO LO MEJOR DE LARA won the 2003 Latin Grammy Award for Best Ranchero Album.
Agustin Lara was one of Mexico's great songwriters, and certainly one of the most widely recorded, in addition to composing songs for many Mexican films of the 1930s and '40s. While many have almost forgotten him in the last three decades, Vicente Fernández obviously hasn't. To celebrate his 35th year as a recording artist, he's put together a disc of the best of Lara's work -- at least in his eyes. Always a romantic, Fernández has gone for the big songs, with new, ...

$16.45 I actually started playing the piano when I was about four years old - simple little ditties to entertain my mother - which grew into the usual piano lesson regimen so many of us knew as kids. I never dreamed of making my own CD of original work until I went to boarding school and discovered I wasn't limited to Rachmaninoff. I will never forget that moment in the music room of Sunnydale Academy - pieces just sort of "came out" whenever I sat down--particularly when my mind was on anything but making music! This began my dream of capturing melodies I couldn't explain. Dedicated to my mustard seed of faith that this gift I discovered would benefit others, I faithfully lugged an ancient ghetto blaster (remember those!) on to the top of our old upright, scrounged for a random cassette and recorded as much as possible. God only knows where those cassette's are now! But, in the summer of 2008 I entered a local recording studio here in Santa Barbara, CA and approached the keys as I've always done - completely unaware of what will happen, but trusting whatever poured forth would make sense. This is the essence of my music, and this project is a tribute to the twenty years I played on any random piano I could find...be it in a bar, book store or empty church....as well as a tribute to my ninth grade self who believed anything was possible.Listener reviews :"...this is really, really good. Like goosebumps good. ...
