Sunshine In The Rain album
$11.19 Released without the usual flurry of hype, Before I Self Destruct fulfills 50 Cent's contractual obligation to the Interscope label. It also doubles as a throwback album, returning the rapper to the hunger and hatred of his early mixtapes while skillfully recasting him as a wannabe upstart. That is, for the most part. The four radio-friendly bedroom numbers that conclude the album are out of place but fairly good to dime-piece beautiful, with the best being the Ne-Yo showcase "Baby by Me" ("Have a baby by me, baby/Be a millionaire"). As pleasing as these final numbers are, if you leave the room after the macho bruiser "I Got Swag" ("I'm infinitely special/Girl the Lord is gonna bless you/If you do what I tell you to do"), you'll return to a confusingly different album, one that's as glamorous but less vital. The monstrous run of tracks that leads up to this flash and polish can be summed up by 50's "This ain't Tha Carter/It's Sparta!," a ...

| | David Liebman Time Immemorial CD (2001)
Sunshine In The Rain music CDs
$11.49 David Liebman conceived of this unaccompanied record as a more universal, less self-centered follow-up to 1985's Loneliness of a Long-Distance Runner. Walter Quintus engineered both discs, and on this one he's given credit as a co-artist, in acknowledgement of the project's extensive reliance on sound processing and recording technique. Liebman plays multiple horns -- soprano, tenor, alto, and baritone, as well as bamboo flute and dudek. The music is divided into four long movements -- "Before," "Then," "Now," and "After" -- with two specific tone rows serving as a springboard for composition and improvisation. Only occasional passages feature solo horn; much of the time Liebman overdubs ...

Sunshine In The Rain songs
$13.15 Here’s an opportunity you don’t see [or hear] everyday;A terminal and disabled, 64 year old man wants you to judge his music. He knows it is the first and last commercial recording he will ever do in this lifetime. He’s been playing his guitar, singing and writing songs since High School. Friends and others have told him repeatedly, what a talent he is. They would ask him why he wasn’t doing this as a fulltime profession, but he considered it more of a hobby than anything else. For his own satisfaction and enjoyment [and a few extra bucks], he played his acoustic guitar and sang his songs in local restaurants and lounges, and always created a small following where ever he did so, but he never really pursued the exposure, the limelight. And, as the years rolled by, he got better. His guitar work became more and more complex and mellowed, sometimes to what he liked to call “a sweetness”. His songs grew in depth, especially his ballads of love and love lost, but also his range of subject matter, from country and blues to folksy humor and many others, making him difficult to categorize. And his voice, not just its maturing into a deep and resonate baritone, but the emotional content he could interject into a song would often envelope the listener. He began to find it particularly satisfying in his performances when the combination of his guitar work, his song lyrics, and his voice could touch his audience emotionally enough to bring a tear here and there. For over 40 years this was the musical side of his life. Sometimes he wishes he had “given up his day job” and pursued it more, but it was never about becoming famous or rich. He had his own reasons. They were enough. But, one question always kinda gnawed at him...Was his music, his songs, really as good as all the friends and relatives, and would-be hangers-on said they were? If he was ever going to find out, it would have to be now. His health was not only failing, but, worst of all, his left hand began losing its feeling. There was no time for delays. As luck would have it, a friend opened his own recording studio about this time and, zip-zap, done deal. […And a great job he did on the engineering.] [Shortly after, the left ...
