Landon Pigg The Boy Who Never CD

Between his 2006 debut and 2009-released follow up, singer-songwriter Landon Pigg experienced the kind of fortunate break millions of struggling artists would give their eye-teeth for; his song, "Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop," became a swooning soundtrack for millions who heard it on TV ads for De Beers ("A Diamond is Forver") and AT&T. That song, and other strong adult-alternative-styled fare make up Pigg's second full-length, THE BOY WHO NEVER. Pigg, a disciple of idiosyncratic crooners from Harry Nilsson to Neil Young to Rufus Wainwright, is more straightforward in his approach than his inspirations, but isn't allergic to the kind of odd melodic twists and clever lyrical turns-of-phrase that define those artists. More convenient comparisons can be drawn to the Beatles and their more contemporaneous Brit-pop torchbearers (Coldplay, Keane), especially on melodically-rich keyboard-led ballads like "A Ghost" and "Speak to the Keys." Throughout, Pigg's warm, inviting, and most of all, straightforwardly pleasing vocals, carry the day on an album with abundant charms for lovers of introspective, romantic pop.
