| | Playlist: The Very Best Of George Jones CD George Jones Discography of CDs
The title of this 2009 compilation contains neither the word "hits" nor "best," so it makes no bones about not being a collection of singles from George Jones' time at Epic. It is merely a Playlist, a collection of songs -- both hits and album tracks -- and in that regard it's not bad, serving up a few outright classics ("A Picture of Me (Without You)," "The Grand Tour," "He Stopped Loving Her Today") with a few overlooked gems and a couple of puzzling inclusions. That latter category is hardly enough to stop this from being entertaining, although if one is looking for either an introduction or a collection of George's best cuts for Epic they should look elsewhere. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Playlist: The Very Best Of George Jones Music Playlist: The Very Best Of George Jones Songs Playlist: The Very Best Of George Jones Review

$6.69 Bio:I have played and sang off and on since 1968 in a variety of duets and one garage band in high school. When I was growing up my dad would always listen to KAYO country western music, I hated it. I never thought that I'd be playing country when I got older. I still consider myself a folk singer, just with a bit of a twang sometimes. I have recently started writing songs. Mary Chapin Carpenter is my favorite singer songwriter. People say I sound like Gordon Lightfoot, Cat Stevens, Jimmy Buffett or John Prine. Depends on who you ask. Other song writers I like are John Prine, Beth Nielson Chapman, and Richard Shindell, Cheryl Wheeler, and others. I like the melodic song written with love about someones life or a comment on life to uplift the soul.Song Write-Ups:Build Up the BridgeI wrote this song after the Katrina flood. I reflected off of that to a 'metaphoric flood situational song'. Alone We Stand as OneLife is always changing, but truth is there for all to see. You stand for what you believe in and stand with others for the same cause even if they're not with you dead or historically. Those who stand in a good cause are brothers in time. This song is a 1960's type anthem song like 'We Shall Overcome'. Going HomeI wrote this song about returning to visit the home of my childhood. The SeaTac airport had condemned neighborhoods in the flight path our house was in one of those neighborhoods. The song talks about abandoned houses and overgrown neighborhoods. (A metaphor for lost memories about childhood)The Start of Our GoodbyesI wrote this around an exercise suggested in Shila Davis book 'Successful Lyric Writing'. This, in combination with a saying my wife has on the weekend, 'Let's get started on the day. ' instead of lingering in bed. Our Winter HappinessA happy marriage song, I wrote this about a winter vacation with my wife and dog. We never seem to have normal summer vacations, when we get around to it its winter. My wife says she likes to watch the storm surf on the ocean. On this vacation we rented a cabin on the ocean shore and it snowed while we were there. One Man WomanThe drifting into town lover treats the relationship like dust on his shoulder. This is a typical no commitment cowboy song, the same old same ongoing half relationship that can't seem to stay dead. Until she steps on him like the snake he is, he'll keep coming back. One Damn BitYou know it doesn't matter how many songs, or dreams, or friends you have if no one is there to: sing with you, or dream along, or know how to ...
