Personnel: Vince Martell (vocals, guitar, background vocals); Mark Stein (vocals, keyboards, background vocals); Carmine Appice (drums, percussion, background vocals); Tim Bogart (background vocals). Audio Mixers: Pat Regan; Carmine Appice. Throughout the years, there have been oodles and oodles of Led Zeppelin tribute albums. And many of these releases feature hard rock bands that merely replicate Zep classics note for note, karaoke-style. In 2007, along came Vanilla Fudge's "tip of the cap" to Bonham-Jones-Page-Plant, titled Out Through the In Door. Unlike most other bands that have covered Zep, Vanilla Fudge actually have some honest to goodness history with the group they're paying homage to, as Zep supported the Fudge on one of their earliest U.S. tours, back in 1969. And it's common knowledge among drummers that John Bonham studied -- and perhaps even borrowed a thing or two from -- the Fudge's powerhouse drummer, Carmine Appice. What makes Out Through the In Door work -- unlike many other Zep tributes -- is that Vanilla Fudge inject their own style and approach to the tunes, and aren't afraid to stray a bit from the original compositions. One case in point is "Ramble On," which gets much more soulful (especially in the chorus), and another is the nice touch provided by Mark Stein's organ flourishes on "Fool in the Rain" -- while both elements collide in an impressively haunting reading of "Dazed and Confused." Few Zep tribute albums -- or even most classic rock tribute albums in general -- work as well as Out Through the In Door does. ~ Greg Prato Out Through The In Door Music | List Price | $15.97 (You save $2.92) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, Rock CDs, Oldies, Hard Rock | | Label | Escapi Music | | Orig Year | 2007 | | All Time Sales Rank | 164079 | | CD Universe Part number | 7987691 | | Catalog number | 700020 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Aug 31, 2009 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Producer | Carmine Appice | | Engineer | Chris Morrison | | Recording Time | 62 minutes | | Personnel | Carmine Appice - drums, percussion, background vocals Mark Stein - vocals, keyboards, background vocals Tim Bogert - background vocals Vince Martell - vocals, guitar, background vocals

| | Alice In Chains Black Gives Way To Blue CD (2009) Limited Edition; Digipak
Out Through The In Door
$14.09 Audio Mixer: Randy Staub . When Layne Staley died from a drug overdose in 2002, it had already been several years since most Alice in Chains fans stopped hoping for a new album. The singer had become a recluse since the late-`90s, and there was little indication that AIC would ever again produce much in the way of new music. As a result, when the remaining members reunited to release BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE in 2009, expectations were low. To the delight of all however, the album proved to be perhaps the Seattle combo's most energetic and consistent effort since its masterpiece DIRT. Perhaps the most surprising element of the new record was how much it sounded exactly like ...
| | Alice Coltrane Transfiguration CD (1978) (Import) Netherlands
Out Through The In Door
$13.15 First time on CD for this memorable and moving live session from the Schoenberg Hall, UCLA in 1978, featuring drummer Roy Haynes and bassist Reggie Workman. Remastered. Digipak.
Personnel includes: Alice Coltrane (piano); Noel Pointer (violin); Reggie Workman (bass); Roy Haynes (drums). Recorded live at UCLA, Los Angeles, California on April 16, 1978. Originally released on Warner Bros. TRANSFIGURATION features the live performances of Alice Coltrane, who was making music as a pianist before she met her husband, John Coltrane, in the early '60s. Coltrane also played harp and organ. Import from the Netherlands. Alice Coltrane never had an easy time of it with critics. That she was able to pursue her rugged musical vision in the midst of controversy (many claimed she was "the Yoko Ono of the John Coltrane Quartet," in that she replaced McCoy Tyner when Trane decided to shift the focus of his band) is, in retrospect, a heroic act, though, humble as she is, she would never see it that way. This double-LP live set (available on one CD from Sepia Tone) from 1976, recorded at UCLA (and not released until 1978), reveals in total the ambitious and profound free jazz and universal musical frontiers Ms. Coltrane was able to explore in both small and larger groups. The lion's share of the music here features her in a trio setting with bassist Reggie Workman and drummer Roy Haynes. Ms. Coltrane performs on piano and organ. The opening moments of the title track, which opens the album, offer the careening subjectivity through the whole-tone improvisation that Alice Coltrane made her own. Certainly there is the influence of ...
