| | Christmas With Buck Owens And His Buckaroos CD (1965)
1958) CD music
$7.89 This 1999 reissue of Owens' 1967 Christmas album is a straight-up affair; with no hidden bonus tracks, just the straight 12 tracks from two 1965 sessions (odd they waited two years to put this stuff out), this is prime Buck Owens and His Buckaroos in the holiday mode. Featured here are "Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy," "Santa's Gonna Come in a Stagecoach," and enough Yule-time weepers to make you realize that the holidays have a mighty ...
| | Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison CD (1968)
1958) music CDs
$6.25 This is a multi-channel Super Audio CD playable only in Super Audio CD players.
Recorded live at Folsom Prison, Folsom, California on January 13, 1968. Includes liner notes by Johnny Cash and Steve Earle.
Want to hear part of the reason why Johnny Cash is an icon, a singer respected and influential in country, folk, and rock & roll? THIS is it! In 1968--one of the most tumultuous years in American history since the Depression years--Cash recorded an album live in front of a (literally) captive (but wildly appreciative) audience, in Folsom Prison. With two guitars, bass, drums, and a small vocal group (including Cash's wife June Carter Cash and the Statler Brothers), Cash sings his hits and lesser-known songs ("Send a Picture of Mother") and some haunting country standards ("Dark as a Dungeon"), as well as songs about REAL outlaws ("Cocaine Blues") to a rapt audience that hangs on every word. That boom-chicka-boom sound is sharp as the first mean wind of winter, and Cash is in fine fettle (though his voice cracks from time to time). With its unique setting, this is as harrowing an album as any ever recorded.

| | Billy Joe Shaver Everybody's Brother CD (2007)
1958) CD music
$13.95 A Billy Joe Shaver album is always cause for celebration, but on this 2007, Grammy-nominated release, the outlaw country troubadour shines in a whole new way. Produced by John Carter Cash, the album features all country-gospel originals, half of them sung in duet with a laundry list of country greats, including the late Johnny Cash, old partner in crime Kris Kristofferson, and Tanya Tucker. Although the Christian-themed ...

| | Ray Condo High & Wild Vinyl LP (2000)
1958) songs
$15.35 Apart from the cover, which is pretty darn cool, there's nothing terribly exceptional about this release. The Ray Condo experience is best heard on the dancefloor, which is a nice way of saying that live settings can help conceal an artist's shortcomings. Condo's an okay singer, but sometimes he comes off a bit cheesy, without giving a clear indication of his intentions. The band plays good, though, and for those who just feel like cuttin' a rug, High & Wild's got more than enough pep and swagger. ~ Jim Smith

1958) songs
$28.09 Practitioners of the glacial school of extreme-volume music, Sunn O))) are the leading exponents of doom, the darkest and heaviest of all metal sub genres. While the group's black-cloaked garb and ritual theatrics have firmly aligned them to the imagery and aesthetic of metal, leader Stephen O'Malley's numerous forays into noise and experimental music, and member Greg Anderson's sideline as label head of Southern Lord (the leading label for adventurous metal) has fashioned the duo as gatekeepers to metal's uncharted paths. MONOLITHS ...
