Swapping out his rhythm section, Andrew Stockdale proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's the mastermind of Wolfmother on COSMIC EGG, creating a second record that is essentially a replication of the first, equally enamored with all the thick, heavy rock of the '70s, specifically Sabbath and Zeppelin, and tempered with a little bit of Jack White caterwaul. All the sounds remain the same, but the songs have changed: with the occasional exception, such as the Stripes-ian salute "White Feather," Stockdale backs away from simple, brutal riff-driven songs, preferring churning exercises in heavy fantasy, sometimes colored with some Deep Purple organ. It's an effective way to show off a tighter, capable band, one that can deliver a serious gut-level punch, and one that is spending more time fusing their influence instead of delivering straight-up hero worship. And, in a sense, that makes COSMIC EGG a mature sophomore effort, particularly if it's just judged on all the sonic textures Wolfmother serves up.
The second album by Australian rock outfit Wolfmother was produced by Alan Moulder (Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle etc.). Featuring guest-riffage by Slash.
Personnel: Andrew Stockdale (vocals, guitar).
Audio Mixers: Darren Lawson; Alan Moulder.
Rolling Stone (p.76) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "'In the Castle' is the epic, with Stockdale hitting Valhalla-scale high notes....There isn't a boring moment..." Spin (p.72) - "[T]he band's stomp and swagger feel refreshingly earnest and expertly executed, reasons enough to take Wolfmother seriously." Q (Magazine) (p.115) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he epic closer 'Violence Of The Sun' displays a healthy sense of ambition....Best heard loud..." Cosmic Egg music CDs
$18.59 Iron Maiden's live album DEATH ON THE ROAD captured the heavy-metal legends at a stop on their 2003 tour, which promoted both that year's DANCE OF DEATH and the best-of collection EDWARD THE GREAT. Recorded at the Westfalenhalle Arena in Dortmund, Germany, this concert film presents DEATH ON THE ROAD in visual form, with Maiden tearing through newer fare from DANCE OF DEATH as well as older classics like "Can I Play with Madness" and "The Trooper" for a potent showcase of singer Bruce Dickinson's soaring vocals and the band's trademark three-guitar ...

$15.65 While there are lighter moments on ZEITGEIST (see the shimmering "Neverlost"), the Pumpkins seem most at home when doling out heavy, upbeat numbers, particularly the searing "Doomsday Clock" and the hard-charging "Tarantula," which showcase Corgan's signature six-string ferocity and Chamberlain's percussive punch. By reining in his often-overactive muse, Corgan has arguably crafted his most focused record since SIAMESE DREAM, making the reinvigorated Pumpkins--rounded out by touring musicians Jeff Schroeder (guitar), Ginger Reyes (bass), and Lisa ...

| | Susan Boyle I Dreamed A Dream CD (2009)
Cosmic Egg CD music
$9.55 Susan Boyle's grand unveiling on Britain's Got Talent was with a song from Les Miserables - the very song that lends this album its title -- and if she could become an international sensation based on a show tune standard, there's no reason for her to change her approach on her debut, since that's the sound that made her a star. Plus, a large part of Boyle's appeal is that she's a middle-aged woman recalling a bygone era when there were singers that appealed to an adult audience by offering soft, stately versions of pop hits and standards. That time was the late `60s and early `70s, and apart from a rather faithful version of Madonna's "You'll See," I Dreamed a Dream could very well have been released all those years ago, as it mixes up the show tunes, gospel, and Christmas carols with covers of Skeeter Davis' "The End of the World," the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses," and ...

Entangled - This is a quantum state where particles, which are not physically connected, affect each other. Certainly I felt a similar feeling when playing, and even more so when hearing what we recorded. One rhythm or note affected others at a speed faster than we could think.2. Mirror Neurons - Empathy is a trait that has been difficult to define scientifically. Now, with brain imaging however, an interesting thing has been shown to occur. Neurons of one person can fire at the same time, as neurons in the exact location of another. I think the symbolism, and possibly the reality, of how this applies to our playing is apparent.3. Singularity - In this case I am referring to the moment at the beginning of the Universe, before the big bang. All of the energy (and therefore matter) that is now in our universe was bundled tightly into a point the size of a single atom. It was the densest, and hottest point in our universe, and was the moment when the greatest energy was about to be released. I feel this same anticipation and tension in some of our music. The moment ...
