Renee Zellweger stars as a mother who travels down the East Coast with her children as they look for a wealthy socialite to take care of them in this comedy based on a childhood recollection of actor George Hamilton. Richard Loncraine (FIREWALL) directs from a script by FORREST GUMP scribe Charlie Peters, with a supporting cast headed by Logan Lerman, Chris Noth, Steven Weber, Nick Stahl, and Kevin Bacon. My One and Only Reviews: "There's something eminently appealing about the way Renee Zellweger's circa 1953 New York City socialite dispenses with her philandering husband in the lovely little bit of nostalgia that is MY ONE AND ONLY."-- Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times "Zellweger does a fine job of giving Deveraux dimension, allowing her sense of humor and sympathetic qualities to coexist with her ditzy self-centeredness."-- Claudia Puig, USA Today "[D]isarming....The unassuming MY ONE AND ONLY keeps its balance and momentum."-- Joanne Kaufman, Wall Street Journal "[A]n affectionate period piece set in economically leaner times....MY ONE AND ONLY coheres as a series of amusing, loosely connected character sketches."-- Stephen Holden, New York Times "Renee Zellweger plays to her strengths as an unsinkable Southern belle in the safe and breezy 1950s period piece MY ONE AND ONLY." -- Grade: B--- Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly

| | Taxidermia
My One and Only review
A strange young man takes his family's long tradition of bizarre behavior to new heights (or depths) in this wildly perverse and explicit horror comedy from director Gyorgy Palfi. Kalman Balatony (Gergo Trocsanyi) is a grotesquely fat gentleman who was fathered by an angry hospital orderly getting revenge on his boss by having sex with his wife. While the embittered husband killed the orderly when he was caught in the act, Kalman was born as a result of the wife's indiscretion. When he grows to adulthood he earns a modest fame as a competitive-eating champion. At an eating contest, Kalman meets a female competitor, the freakish Gizi (Adel Stanczel), and the two fall in love. Kalman and Gizi marry, and she gives birth to a son, Lajos (Marc Bischoff), who grows up to be just as skinny as his parents are fat. Lajos studies taxidermy and takes up preserving animals as a career when he isn't busy taking care of his elderly and increasingly massive father. ...

| | End of Poverty
My One and Only movie DVD
The aphorism "The poor are always with us" dates back to the New Testament, but while the phrase is still sadly apt in the 21st century, few seem to be able to explain why poverty is so widespread. Activist filmmaker Philippe Diaz examines the history and impact of economic inequality in developing nations in the documentary THE END OF POVERTY, and makes the compelling argument that it's not an accident or simple bad luck that has created a growing underclass around the world. Diaz traces the growth of global poverty back to colonization in the 15th century, and his film features interviews with a number of economists, sociologists, and historians who explain how poverty is the clear consequence of free-market economic policies. These principles allow powerful nations to exploit poorer countries for their assets and keep money in the hands of the wealthy rather than distributing it more equitably to the people who helped ...
| | William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe
My One and Only video
During the second half of the 20th century, William Kunstler was one of the most admired attorneys in America--and one of the most hated. Kunstler was a man who thrived on controversial cases; in the 1960s, he specialized in defending clients who ran afoul of the law on civil rights and free speech issues, and he spoke on behalf of Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Lenny Bruce, members of the Black Panther Party, Native American activists, and prisoners' rights groups. Kunstler found himself in the national media spotlight in 1969 when he defended "the Chicago Eight," activists who were accused of organizing riots during the 1968 Chicago Democratic Convention; his flamboyant style in the courtroom fascinated the press, and some believe he soon became as interested in getting his name in the papers and his face on television as he was in the law. In his later years, Kunstler developed a reputation as a man who would defend clients whom no one else would touch, including drug dealers, accused rapists, organized-crime figures, and suspected terrorists, though he remained a passionate advocate of the American legal system. Kunstler's daughters, Emily and Sarah, began asking their famous ...
