Standard Screen; Soundtrack English Experience Madonna’s many metamorphoses with this video collection that spans three decades. CELEBRATION includes the black-mesh-clad antics of "Lucky Star," the combination of high art and erotica on "Justify My Love," the frenetic energy of "Ray of Light," and the Pharrell collaboration on "Give It 2 Me." This anthology features dozens of videos from the genre-spanning sexpot, including "Like A Virgin," "Like A Prayer," "Frozen," "Music," and the title track. Few artists have attained such enduring popularity, and CELEBRATION serves as video evidence for her lasting celebrity. | | Lady Gaga Just Dance (2008) 4 versions; Remix
Madonna: Celebration movie DVD
$2.95 No one can accuse Lady Gaga of not giving the people what they want. "Just Dance," the artist's first single, is an urgent dancefloor filler that draws on Madonna, glam, `80s electro-pop, and deep house, trendy elements that not only push ubiquitous pleasure buttons but carry all the right cultural cachet in the late 2000s. But the up-and-coming dance-pop diva has the skill and flair to pull it off, as anyone who hears (and buys) "Just Dance" will find. Sexy, catchy, and eminently danceable, this single release is hard to resist. More of the same can be heard on THE FAME, Lada Gaga's full-length debut released in 2008.

Madonna: Celebration video
$19.85 CELEBRATION, Madonna's fourth major hits collection, has the Herculean task of summing up 30 years of chart-topping pop music by one of the true visionary artists of the era. The 18 songs are tilted toward her good-time dancefloor classics, both from her early days ("Holiday," "Into the Groove") and her later techno-influenced songs ("Hung Up," "Ray of Light"). It also adds a newly recorded track, "Celebration," produced with Paul Oakenfold. The only track that comes close to balladry is the mid-tempo Latin groove, "La Isla Bonita." The collection does a fine job of living up to the title--it's certainly a celebration of Madonna's career and includes some of the most celebratory and thrilling pop music ever created.
Madonna's run at the top of the charts lasted so long, longer than almost any other star, it's almost impossible to squeeze all the hits onto one collection. And so it is that Celebration, a double-disc, 36-track set that also has a companion single-disc condensation, misses a few songs, hits as gorgeous as "Rain" and as goofily camp as "Hanky Panky," but truth be told, they're not greatly missed on this parade of pop genius that's hampered only slightly by its non-chronological order. Out of order, it does emphasize Madonna's consistency, but the bigger problem with the collection is that it mixes up album mixes, single edits, QSound mixes pulled from The Immaculate Collection, and a couple of stray odd edits and mixes. This is a mess, but not quite enough to dilute what is one of the greatest bodies of work in modern pop -- even in this mixed-up confusion, these singles are a joy to hear. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| | 3 Women DVD (1977)
Madonna: Celebration film
$28.65 Robert Altman delivers one of his most startlingly enigmatic pictures with 3 WOMEN. Inspired by a dream Altman had in which he was shooting a film in the desert, the film tells the story of a shy, quiet girl named Pinky (Sissy Spacek), who starts working in a nursing home and strikes up a friendship with the talkative Millie (Shelley Duvall). The pair share an apartment and grow closer together, but a series of strange events cause their personas to change and morph in unexpected ways. Recalling the dreamy atmosphere of Ingmar Bergman's PERSONA, 3 WOMEN is Altman at his most deliriously inspired.
Featuring brilliant performances from Spacek and Duvall, Robert Altman's dreamlike masterpiece, 3 Women, careens from the humorous to the chilling to the surreal, resulting in one of the most unusual and compelling films of the 1970s. Special features include Audio commentary by director Robert Altman; Stills gallery of rare production and publicity photos; Original theatrical trailer; English subtitles for the deaf and hearing impaired.
