The magical story of Forrest Gump, a sweet-natured idiot savant from rural Alabama. As he goes down the road of life, mouthing pithy and quotable homilies, he encounters luminaries such as John Lennon, Elvis Presley and JFK. But all the while he can't forget one special girl from his childhood...

The title character leads viewers through an accidental travelogue of American social history from the early 1960s through the present in this revisionist fable. Vietnam, desegregation, Watergate, and more are presented from the perspective of Tom Hanks's loveably slow-witted Forrest Gump as he finds himself embroiled in situations he can't quite comprehend. Hanks leads an excellent cast, featuring Robin Wright Penn as Jenny, Forrest's lifelong love; Gary Sinise as the irascible Lt. Dan, his Vietnam superior; Mykelti Williamson as Bubba, a shrimp-loving soldier; and Sally Fields as his devoted mother. Robert Zemeckis's emotional, heartwarming film garnered 13 Academy Award nominations and six wins, including Best Picture, Director, Actor--Tom Hanks, and Adapted Screenplay.

Theatrical release: July 6, 1994. FORREST GUMP made more than $325 million at the domestic box office and more than $675 million worldwide. The famous, oft-quoted line said by Forrest Gump in the film: "Life is like a box of chocolates," is a total reworking of the original line in the novel which reads: "Let me say this: bein' an idiot is no box of chocolates." "To make Sinise appear to be a double amputee, the filmmakers relied on a combination of computer artistry, a trick wheelchair that hid Sinise's legs from the knees down and a limber actor... Sinise did suffer a minor leg injury while making 'Gump,' ironically during a scene in which Forrest (Tom Hanks) carries him out of the Vietnam jungle. 'My inner thigh kept bouncing on his shoulder. It was like taking a jackhammer to it,' says Sinise. 'I developed a huge contusion and couldn't bend my leg to get into the wheelchair.'" -- USA TODAY, July 7, 1994

Forrest Gump Quotes/Excerpts:

"Now the really good thing about meetin' the President of the United States is the food." "My name's Forrest Gump. People call me Forrest Gump!" -- Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) "Life is like a box of chocolates: you never know what you're gonna get" -- Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks)

5 stars Pure genius.
I don't want to sound corny, but the first time one sees this can only be described as magical. I really can't give it the credit it deserves with just words. It makes you think, it has a great storyline... and it humbles a man. You watch it and you feel like you've just taken a bite out of life, and as though you can do anything you put your mind to. Great story, worth being watched by everyone.

Two retiring show people start up a New England country inn with the unique and, one would think, self-defeating idea of being open only on national holidays; however, in this delightful fluff-fest, they achieve instantaneous success. Conflicts arise when they fall for the same woman, and sparks fly -as do their feet - in a variety of inventive, holiday themed song-and-dance productions. Perhaps the best film ever inspired by a song. Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" was introduced in this film. Black & White; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; English Subtitles; Special Edition

This epic look at the Vietnam War and its effects told through the lives of a tight knit group of friends from a Pennsylvania town was Michael Cimino's second film and established him in the pantheon of American directors. Complex and emotionally raw performances from Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep earned each an Academy Award nomination, and Christopher Walken's portrayal of Nick, who survives capture but is unable to escape its trauma, is a tour de force that earned him the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. With a keen eye for nuance and a carefully structured script, Cimino interweaves the rituals great and small that make up the lives of his characters, creating a poignant sense of what remained constant and what was forever changed by their experience of the war. Import Blu-Ray/Region A+B pressing. Packaged in hardbook style case. One of the most widely acclaimed films of all time. The Deer Hunter is Michael Cimino's celebrated interpretation of the stresses and dangers - noth physical and emotional - which confront a trio of Pennsylvanian steel-workers when they are sent out to fight in the horror that was the Vietnam War. Starring Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, John Cazale and John Savage.

Writer-director Gerald McMorrow makes his feature debut with this ambitious psychological sci-fi drama set between contemporary London and the dystopic Meanwhile City, where the separation between church and state has been obliterated to make way for a religion-dominated society. As atheist vigilante Jonathan Preest (Ryan Phillippe) prepares to seek revenge against Meanwhile City's powerful leader, privileged artist Emilia (Eva Green) finds her cynicism and depression accelerated by the difficult relationship she shares with her mother. Meanwhile, sensitive Milo (Sam Riley) attempts to recover from a recent heartache, just as deeply religious Peter (Bernard Hill) arrives in London to search for his missing son, a haunted Gulf War veteran. As the narrative shifts between the real and imaginary worlds, McMorrow explores the complex relationships between fantasy, faith, and love. GALAXY QUEST is a satirical comedy that pokes fun at the influence science fiction shows such as STAR TREK have had on their audience. The cast members of the cult sci-fi television series GALAXY QUEST now earn their livings appearing at conventions and grand openings, led by their bombastic captain Jason Nesmith, played by Tim Allen. When an alien race--the Thermians--arrives on earth, it appears that they have mistakenly appropriated the show's culture as their own, thinking the series was actual fact. Desperate for help in battling the evil General Sarris, they bring the actors with them into space to save their planet. A surprisingly smart and funny send-up of the science-fiction culture and the influence television has on the world at large, GALAXY QUEST is a comedy that even nongenre fans can enjoy, with terrific turns by Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Sam Rockwell, and Tony Shalhoub. Giving a history of surfing that stretches from the early 1940s to 2004, RIDING GIANTS is director Stacy Peralta's examination of surfing as a lifestyle, a risk-taker's delight, and a space for increasing innovation and modernization. From the California coastline to the dramatic wild waters of Hawaii, big waves are the aim of some of the top surfers in the sport--Greg Noll, Jeff Clark, and Laird Hamilton. Beginning with old footage of the first surf boards which were long and heavy and made for riding small waves without much movement, and taking viewers through the sport chapter by chapter, this comprehensive documentary shows how the faces of the sport change with advances in surfboard technology. Bit by bit boards become smaller and "beach bums" are more readily accepted by society. The film offers a comic look at cult films like GIDGET and the music of surf guitarist Dick Dale--pop culture influences responsible for introducing the sport and its lifestyle to the mainstream. The most fascinating moments of the film come in its final quarter when Hamilton and his buddies discover the key to tow-in big-wave surfing and break through all imaginable boundaries. RIDING GIANTS shows some true daredevils doing what they do best, and its magnificent photography, comprehensive interviews, and insider perspective are truly a marvel to behold.
