His ability to shed a single tear drives all the girls wild, including the beautiful square Allison. Unable to resist, she soon finds herself drawn into his world of fast cars and Rockabilly music. Cult director John Waters goes mainstream -- sort of -- in this send-up of 1950s teen melodramas. Heart-throb Johnny Depp stars in the title role as a glamorous delinquent who heads a gang of hoods known as the Drapes. Trouble starts when Cry-Baby falls for a squeaky clean blonde from a rival group, the Squares. Their star-crossed romance sets off a rumble between the warring factions and Cry-Baby ends up doing time in reform school. Chock-full of rock 'n roll and Waters' usual cavalcade of eccentric celebrities, including Patty Hearst, Iggy Pop and former porn star Traci Lords.

Awesome This is an awesome movie... I love this movie... It tells you so much about the 50's and how different people were then and now... Even back in the 50's there was cliqs and groups like there is now so socity hasnt changed much, just the hair, clothes, and make-up is about all that has changed... But all in all this is a really great movie that everyone should watch... Submitted by heavens_angel_eyes_2003 (Oklahoma, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

| | Christmas Story DVD (1984)
Cry-Baby review
$12.99 This vignette-laden, nostalgic view of Christmastime in 1940s Indiana follows nine-year-old Ralphie, who desperately wants a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas--and is waging an all-out campaign to convince his reluctant parents that the toy will be safe in his hands. By turns warped and winsome, the comedy follows Ralphie as he prepares for the big day with his rather idiosyncratic family. Based on the novel by humorist Jean Shepherd (who also narrates the film), A CHRISTMAS STORY gained popularity long after its theatrical run, through frequent holiday broadcasts that turned its schoolyard "triple-dog" dares, family neuroses, and childhood indignities into a Yuletide tradition.
This 98 minute feature film is a DVD starring Peter Billin gsley, Darren McGavin, and Melinda Dillon. Discontinued.

$5.79 Country music legend Dolly Parton lends her sunny charm to the heartwarming made-for-TV film UNLIKELY ANGEL. When hard-living barroom singer Ruby Diamond (Parton) dies in a car accident and meets St. Peter (Roddy McDowall) at the gates of heaven, the angel informs her that she must to return to earth to perform a selfless deed in order to gain admittance. Disguising herself as a nanny, Ruby soon insinuates herself into the joyless family life of workaholic widower Ben Bartilson (Lance Kerwin) and his children Sarah (Allison Mack) and Matthew (Eli Marienthal)--hoping to both heal the grief-stricken family and earn her heavenly wings in time for Christmas. Punctuated by Dolly musical numbers, UNLIKELY ANGEL is a Capra-esque affirmation of the holidays, love, and family.

| | Harold And Maude DVD (1971) Widescreen
Cry-Baby video
$10.49 In the days before home video, when access to anything but first-run Hollywood movies was limited to repertory houses and college film societies, Hal Ashby's HAROLD AND MAUDE achieved cult status and became a surprise hit. In a broad sense, the film is a simple love story about how opposites attract--only, this time around, he's 19 and she's 79. Harold, played with deadpan humor by Bud Cort (M*A*S*H), is under extreme pressure from his overbearing mother, Mrs. Chasen (Vivian Pickles, in a performance that is a sheer delight), to enter the dating world. Unfortunately, the shy and morose Harold would rather spend his time attending the funerals of complete strangers. It is at one of these where he meets Maude (Ruth Gordon), who has the spunk and energy of a teenager. Maude is convinced that Harold needs to come out of his shell and enjoy life, so she brings him into hers.
The taboo relationship between Harold and Maude, created by screenwriter Colin Higgins, embodied the spirit of an experimental generation guided by the mantra "If it feels good, do it." The love affair between the film's two eccentrics remains one of Hollywood's most unexpected, but tender, romances. The soundtrack, with songs by Cat Stevens, provides an effective thematic bridge as Harold crosses from extended adolescence into manhood.
91 minute feature film DVD starring Cyril Cusack and Ellen Geer.
| | Santa Clause DVD (1994) Widescreen; Special Edition
Cry-Baby film
$15.05 When Santa Claus gets killed in a freak accident after being startled on the rooftop of a house, it looks like Christmas is ruined. But fortunately, just before his death, the jolly, gift-giver passed the torch to ad executive Scott Calvin (Tim Allen), who finishes the job of bestowing holiday cheer on all. When he finally reaches on the North Pole, however, Scott learns that he can't give up the job -- he's become the next Santa Claus. (THAT'S the Santa Clause!). Scott returns home, only to find himself slowly changing into the pudgy, white-haired old man so beloved of children... and to find that everyone around him considers him utterly and completely mad.
Judge Reinhold, Larry Brandenburg, Mary Gross, Peter Boyle, Tim Allen, Wendy Crewson - Director: John Pasquin Rooftop clutter leads to merry adventure after Santa gets injured on the job and Scott Calvin tries on his famous red suit, not realizing that he must now accept all of Santa's duties! Over the next year, a surprised, not-so-jolly "St. Scott" grows a Santa-sized tummy and beard, causing family and friends to wonder if he's lost his marbles. "Home Improvement's" Tim Allen stars in this hilarious and heart-warming tale that's "destined to become a holiday classic" (The New York Post).

$14.79 All varieties of otherworldly creatures come out to play in Stephen Sommers' gothic carnival. Frankenstein's monster, ferocious werewolves, vampire bat babies, a maniacal scientist named Igor, and a CGI Dr. Jekyll are just a few. When they come together, a thrilling fantasy adventure results, making VAN HELSING a visual feast. Destined to fight the world's evil, Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) is a warrior in a cowboy hat and a trench coat, heavily armed with a rapid-fire multi-arrow crossbow, among other gadgetry. A legion of monks in Rome send Van Helsing to Transylvania to hunt the immortal Count Dracula (Richard Roxburgh), who terrorizes the local people with the help of his three vampire brides. Especially threatened is the vixen Anna Valerious (Kate Beckinsale), whose family also strives to kill the Count. Van Helsing and Anna Valerious work together, searching for the secret door to Dracula's lair. But it is only after massive battles involving impossible stunts, races on horse-pulled carriages, and the desecration of enchanting medieval castles (all done with dizzying computer graphics) that they succeed. Not only does the eye candy keep on coming, the tongue-in-cheek writing and deep Transylvanian accents perfect the film with a dose of dark humor.
