In the modern cathedral of materialism, a shopping mall, flesh-eating zombies browse for more victims. Four horrified survivors fend off the gruesome shoppers as the mall fills with the once-living. Picking up where NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD left off, and still offering no explanation of why the dead are walking the earth, DAWN OF THE DEAD plunges headlong into one of the most violent and original horror films ever made. After securing an apartment building overcome with flesh-eating zombies, two Philadelphia area SWAT team members, Peter (Ken Foree) and Roger (Scott Reiniger), flee to a television station, where they escape in the station's helicopter with Francine (Gaylen Ross) and Stephen (David Emge), two station employees. Seeking refuge from the zombies and the ensuing hysteria, they land on top of a Pittsburgh area shopping mall, despite the fact that the undead seem to be flocking there. What begins as a stop for supplies becomes a longer stay as the four become embroiled in a futile war within the mall to keep their flesh to themselves and remain alive.
The film's relentlessly disturbing and innovative gore effects are one reason to see DAWN OF THE DEAD, but those who can stomach the endless barrage of blood and gnarled zombie faces will be rewarded--and possibly surprised--by what the film says about human nature and life within a consumer-based culture. Any aficionado of horror is likely to place the film high on their list of revered cinema. Theatrical release: April 10, 1979 (USA).
DAWN OF THE DEAD went into production in November 1977, with a budget of $1.5 million.
The mall sequences were filmed at the Monroeville Mall in Monroeville, PA. The tenement scenes were shot in Pittsburgh's Hill District, the area upon which the TV series HILL STREET BLUES was based.
Several versions of the film exist, as a result of the censorship policies of different countries.
The editing of the 121-minute Italian version was supervised by co-producer Dario Argento.
Director George Romero makes a cameo appearance in the television station at the beginning of the film.
Gore maestro Tom Savini appears as the leader of a biker gang who is eviscerated by zombies in the shopping mall.
Most of the 143 storeowners in the mall allowed their stores to be photographed in the film.
Dawn Of The Dead Quotes/Excerpts: "Some kind of instinct. Memory of what used to be. This was an important place in their lives."--Steve Andrews (David Emge) on why the zombies are flocking to the mall
Dawn Of The Dead Reviews: "...DAWN pummels the viewer with a series of ever-more-grisly events....Romero's strong suit is pacing and technical fluidity. His film has a keen visual sense that tersely extracts the maximum from all the bloodletting..."
-- Sege., Variety "Fundamentally satirical, DAWN also has an essential -- but rarely remarked upon -- sadness."
-- Chris Willman, Entertainment Weekly "Romero himself is said to prefer this tauter version, which balances its low-budget gore with a sharp satire on consumer society..."
-- James Bell, Sight and Sound "[S]till highly effective, and as slyly funny as gory."

Dawn Of The Dead Movie Review A Dawn of a Awakening !!! Hello !!!
This release of Dawn of the Dead should have been out along time ago. It is by far the best of all the releases of Dawn of of the Dead on Video(DVD). The highlight of this 4 Disc set is Disc 3 and Disc 4. Disc 3(The European Cut) features the four main actors doing the audio commentary for the film. What a delight it was to hear what the actors had to say about the film after all these years. You could tell that they had a good time with each other while suppling their input on the film. Disc 4 supplies an all new Documentary (The Dead Will Walk). It shows the stars as well as the lead zombie actors as they look today and the impact Dawn of the Dead has had on them. It features a spoiler that is the best piece of advertising for Dawn of the Dead I ever seen. Yes this Box set is worth getting for any Dawn of the Dead enthusiast. Dead walk the Earth with heads held high For fans of this seminal zombie flick, it doesnt get much better than this - ultimate Edition!
Pretty much every extra you can think of has been crammed onto 4 discs including 3 alternate versions of the film.
The film itself looks great having been neatened up and digitally transferred to DVD and the sheer volume of extras means that this is a must have - forget any other versions, own the ultimate, because it does exactly what is says on the cover.

Tex from Texas you moron
Tex from Texas, Your review is rediculous and your attack on Dawn 04 is largely unfounded. True, Dawn 79 had more to say as regards consumerism and social delemmas but Dawn 04 from the offset never set out to eclypse these comments made so well by Romero. Instead Dawn 04 set out to make it's own mark via a storyline slightly askew to the original, effects that make a Marilyn Manson video seem tame, and acting that is as good if not better to the original. As for the social commnentary, I suggest you see Dawn 04 at least twice again before shooting from the hip and reacting in such a spasmodic and infantile way as the movie does have several things to say if the viwer chooses to look and listen hard enough.
Dawn 04 may not be a classic but it is an extremely enjoyable zombie movie and I for one will be buying the DVD once available.

$20.71 Writer-director Gerald McMorrow makes his feature debut with this ambitious psychological sci-fi drama set between contemporary London and the dystopic Meanwhile City, where the separation between church and state has been obliterated to make way for a religion-dominated society. As atheist vigilante Jonathan Preest (Ryan Phillippe) prepares to seek revenge against Meanwhile City's powerful leader, privileged artist Emilia (Eva Green) finds her cynicism and depression accelerated by the difficult relationship she shares with her mother. Meanwhile, sensitive Milo (Sam Riley) attempts to recover from a recent heartache, just as deeply religious Peter (Bernard Hill) arrives in London to search for his missing son, a haunted Gulf War veteran. As the narrative shifts between the real and imaginary worlds, McMorrow explores the complex relationships between fantasy, faith, and love.

Dawn Of The Dead film
$13.55 The Force is with us in EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH, the final chapter of the six-part STAR WARS series, which began a long time ago (1977) in a galaxy far, far away... and is now complete in its cyclical perfection. This visually awe-striking kaleidoscope of interplanetary imagination features the unmatched digital animation and special effects of George Lucas's Industrial Light and Magic. With pink and orange skies casting a golden sheen over magnificent landscapes through which space ships dart and light sabers flash, the spectacle of the film, while hypnotizing, is but a complement to the intense, crucial plot.
Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) remains the Jedi apprentice of master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). Battling dark forces that threaten the Republic, the duo quickly eliminates enemy Count Dooku (Christopher Lee), and Anakin proves--as he states more than once--that his powers have doubled. An intimidating warrior with superior knowledge of the Force, Anakin becomes the pet of Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid), who is connected to the dark side. Meanwhile, Padme (Natalie Portman), the senator and former queen who is secretly married to Anakin, is pregnant, and Anakin is tortured by dreams of her dying in childbirth. With Obi-Wan on Utapau battling cyborg General Grievous (Matthew Wood), and Yoda (Frank Oz) joining the Wookiees of Kashyyyk, the sage warnings of the Jedi council (Samuel L. Jackson, Jimmy Smits) go unheard by Anakin. His moodiness and glowering are a clear precursor to his inevitable, terrifying metamorphosis into Darth Vader, the dark leader of the evil Empire who haunts the remainder of the series. John Williams's famous orchestral score with its thunderous marching themes adds more continuity, with refrains reminding viewers of STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE, in which Padme's children Luke and Leia take charge.
The set includes over 6 hours of extras.
