(1 Customer Review)
On CLOSER TO THE BONE, Kris Kristofferson avoids the production mishaps of 2006's THIS OLD ROAD, though he works with the same team: producer Don Was (who also played bass), drummer Jim Keltner, Rami Jaffee on keyboards, and guitarist Stephen Bruton, who passed away shortly after finishing this album. CLOSER TO THE BONE's 11 songs are simply jaw-dropping for the most part: some pay tribute to friends; others give props to loss, grief, pleasure, and pain; and they all offer gratitude for the experiences. The sound of the record is close, intimate, and immediate but less shambolic than THIS OLD ROAD. That's not to say it sounds falsely polished. It's an exceptionally intimate recording filled with songs that are always direct and sometimes uncomfortable. The melodies are as simple and classic as they've always been, but lyrically, the man is on a tear. If Kristofferson never cuts another record, CLOSER TO THE BONE will have been a proud note to end his musical career on.

Rolling Stone (p.70) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "[T]he scale is intimate -- confessions and metaphysical ruminations, delivered in a weathered rumble, punctuated by the sound of harmonica nd fingers scraping on fretboards." Billboard (p.56) - "With CLOSER TO THE BONE Kristofferson digs deep into his long and troubled past to bring listeners one of his most beautiful moments." Q (Magazine) (p.109) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "CLOSER TO THE BONE is more personal, the septuagenarian singing what sound like farewell letters to friends and family over the slightest acoustic accompaniment." Record Collector (magazine) (p.88) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "KRISTOFFERSON once again elevates the form with the clarity and discipline of a true poet." Closer To The Bone album
$10.45 "Here In Angola," "Pandora," and "Indian Summer" were originally released on the LP INDIAN SUMMER.
24 CARROTS is folk-rocker Al Stewart's 1980 album, recorded with Shot in the Dark. This reissue features five bonus tracks, "Here in Angola", "Indian Summer", "Pandora", "Delia's Gone", and "Princess Olivia".
The pun of the title of 24 Carrots -- the first overt signal of humor Al Stewart has displayed in years, possibly ever -- illustrates that a lot has changed since 1978's Time Passages. The loosening of his wit is perhaps the most evident, but the most significant is the departure of producer Alan Parsons, who collaborated with Stewart on his mid-'70s triptych of masterpieces. In truth, 24 Carrots isn't far removed from those high points, because he is indeed still writing at a remarkably consistent pace. No, this record isn't quite at the high standard of the previous three albums, but it does ...

$15.65 Rock's original gold dust woman capped a return to the road in the '00s with this stunningly on-point live collection--her first. With tracks taken from a live set in Chicago in October 2007 and later bolstered by overdubs from a Nashville session (essentially studio strings and backing vocals), THE SOUNDSTAGE SESSIONS matches the energy of a hot live set with pristine studio touches. Nicks concentrates mostly on her solo material (there are only two Fleetwood Mac era songs here--none ...

Closer To The Bone CD music
$14.42 Dismissed by the benighted as the Doors' "pop album," SOFT PARADE is one of the band's most adventurous recordings, utilizing strings and horns without resorting to schlocky over-production and moving far beyond their blues roots. Morrison was fully into his shaman phase by 1969, and his obsession with that image is reflected in the proselytizing air of "Tell All the People," and of course "Shaman's Blues." The album's biggest hit "Touch Me," while easily the group's most radio-friendly offering, is a pop classic that ranks among the great '60s AM radio tunes. "Wild Child" is a brief return to the blues-rock of yore, but the title track is a sophisticated, extended piece that moves through several different moods and textures, full of the elliptical, poetic lyrics that were Morrison's trademark.
The weakest studio album recorded with Jim Morrison in the group, partially because their ...

$16.45 The Howard City, Michigan Based ROCK BAND, KLIKRED, was formed in 2000 by Davey Glover and David Holbrook, two guitar players who had known each other for more than 15 years. David Holbrook, the band’s lead singer and lead guitar player, has been playing and singing in the bars since the age of fourteen. David’s early bands were of the classic rock, country, bluegrass, and southern rock genre, . Davey hails from West Virginia and has both heavy metal and bluegrass influences; his first band being death metal/thrash. Davey use to play drums ,and was pretty good at it...To Davey’s credit, he won the state drum competition. One day over the phone it was decided by the two that, “We Need To Get A Band Started!” That dream has evolved into the modern-day KLIKRED. David called his cousin, Brian Arnold, a drummer who had recently split from his former band , the Loose County Road Commission. Loose County was receiving air play on local Big Rapids media outlets as they had completed their debut CD, "Blind Sucker Floodin'". They also played live in the studio at 101.7 ...The break-up of Brian’s former band made him hesitant to start another project, but he agreed. At this point, the fellas had a lead singer, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, and drums, but no bass. It was arranged for John to come to a band practice, John was invited to join the band at the end of the first practice. . David’s strong leadership helped the band to quickly congeal and the band played their first show eight weeks later at the Pierson “Fire Barn” in late March 2001. Within months, KLIKRED began to play the local bar circuit, playing about 45 songs per night, playing approximately 60-70 shows per year . KLIKRED is known for their strong vocals and meaningful lyrics with driving force. The band played a consortium of music ranging from The Beatles to White Zombie, Bad Company to ZZ Top, and Clapton to The White Stripes. During the course of a KLIKRED evening, you could expect to hear a great blend of the classics to great modern-day alternative metal. In the Fall of 2005, John decided to pursue other musical interests . KLIKRED would go forward with high school friend, Clayton Smith, joining the band on bass. Clayton had played drums with the band on an interim basis years earlier. While brian was working in California.. The band continued to focus more on their original music, as they had made a more concerted effort to produce it since 2003. By the Fall of 2007, Clayton would leave the band, to work on his solo album ,and KLIKRED would once again be without a bass player. John left for Seattle in October 2007 and just after the New Year 2008, David and John began dialogue where David expressed that "the band" would like to reunite the original members and try to take KLIKRED to the next level in their rock and roll evolution. , John returned to Grand Rapids in February 2008, and the band would have their first rehearsal on a very snowy Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2008. The original members spent time apart working on their respective musical interests and each growing his own style. Time apart has allowed members to further develop their playing, writing, composing, and vocal styles and interests. But attitudes still affected the band and John would once again persue other musical interests , And Clayton was the bass player again...KLIKRED opened for JACKYL in june ...
