Widescreen; Additional Footage; Soundtrack English; Soundtrack French; English Subtitles; Spanish Subtitles; French Subtitles; Sensormatic David Fincher's adrenaline-fueled adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's novel is a satirical, absurdist romp highlighted by the director's edgy visual flair. FIGHT CLUB is narrated by a lonely, unfulfilled young man (Edward Norton) who finds his only comfort in feigning terminal illness and attending disease support groups. Hopping from group to group, he encounters another pretender, or "tourist," the morose Marla Singer (Helena Bonham Carter), who immediately gets under his skin. However, while returning from a business trip, he meets a more intriguing character--the subversive Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt). They become fast friends, bonding over a mutual disgust for corporate consumer-culture hypocrisy. Eventually, the two start Fight Club, which convenes in a bar basement where angry men get to vent their frustrations in brutal, bare-knuckle bouts. Fight Club soon becomes the men's only real priority; when the club starts a cross-country expansion, things start getting really crazy.
Like Tyler Durden himself, director David Fincher's FIGHT CLUB, based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk, is startlingly aggressive and gleefully mischievous as it skewers the superficiality of American pop culture. Outstanding performances by Norton and Pitt are supported by a razor-sharp script and an arsenal of stunning visual effects that include computer animation and sleight-of-hand editing. One of the most unique films of the late 20th century, FIGHT CLUB is a pitch-black comedy of striking intensity. Theatrical release: October 15, 1999.
FIGHT CLUB premiered at the CMJ Film Festival on September 21, 1999.
Filmed in Los Angeles, California.
Director David Fincher shot over 1,500 reels of film, which is over three times the usual amount of footage used for most feature-length films.
The house on Paper Street was specifically designed for the film and built from the ground up in a deserted industrial zone.
Edward Norton's character is actually unnamed, but is sometimes referred to as "Jack," which comes from a medical book he reads in the Paper Street house. In the book, internal body organs speak as characters, saying things like "I am Jack's colon." As the movie progresses, the narrator makes up his own statements such as "I am Jack's raging bile duct."
Subliminal images are present throughout the film. Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) flashes onto the screen in four split-second appearances before actually encountering Edward Norton's character. Tyler also briefly appears in a television ad (for an upscale restaurant) that "Jack" watches from his hotel room. Later, Tyler is shown splicing pornographic footage into family films while working in a projection booth. At the end of the film, there's a quick shot of one of these images.
Brad Pitt removed the cap from his chipped front tooth for certain scenes.
Visual effects supervisor Kevin Scott Mack (who designed the elaborate title sequence) appears as a terrified passenger in the scene where the narrator imagines his plane ripping apart in a mid-air collision.
In the house on Paper Street, there's an issue of Movieline magazine with Drew Barrymore on the cover. Barrymore costarred with Norton in Woody Allen's EVERYONE SAYS I LOVE YOU.
In addition to the Dust Brothers' score, the film also features the songs "Goin' Out West" by Tom Waits and "Where Is My Mind?" by the Pixies.
The Online Film Critics Society named FIGHT CLUB Best DVD, Best DVD Special Features, and Best DVD Commentary; Entertainment Weekly named it the second best DVD of 2000. Fight Club Movie Review We are the all singing, all dacing crap of the world. Fight Club is, by far, my favorite movie of all time! Brad Pitt and Ed Norton play the anti-heros that are actually the hero to many of us. This movie is not about fighting and blowing up stuff, so don't believe any of that crap you heard. It's a pretty acurate representation of Chuck Palahnuick's book of the same name. David Finicher (the director) was the perfect director for the movie and they picked the perfect actors. See this movie and never want to go back to work. How much could you know about yourself if you've never been in a fight? Submitted by a reviewer (grand forks, nd) Was This Review Helpful? | | Gram Parsons Complete Reprise Sessions CDs (2006) Remastered; Boxed Set
Fight Club movie DVD
$24.29 Taking the place of the obligatory cd two-fer of GP and GREVIOUS ANGEL, Gram Parsons's THE COMPLETE REPRISE SESSIONS covers it all and then some for Grampires of all stripes. Produced by Emmylou Harris and Parsons cohort James Austin, this beautifully designed three-disc set includes one disc devoted to each solo record and a third featuring outtakes from each album's sessions. With fewer overdubs and Gram and Emmylou's vocals front-and-center in the mix, the final disc brims with the emotive soul and earthbound angelic vocals the two perfected. Among the final discs many highlights are looser alternate takes of "She" and "Streets of Baltimore" from GP and a "Hickory Wind" unadorned by the ridiculous fake crowd noise that mars the GRIEVOUS ANGEL version. The latter is the best and most stirring recorded performance of Parsons's signature song and alone worth the box's sticker price. Other features scattered on the first two discs include radio interviews (with Parsons's southern hippie charm in overdrive); captivatingly raw acoustic performances with him, Harris, and drummer N.D. Smart; and an instrumental version of "Return of the Grievous Angel" that reveals just how ace a country band the Waycross longhair had.

| | Stephen King's The Mist Blu-ray (2007)
Fight Club review
$37.25 Frank Darabont (THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, THE GREEN MILE) serves as director, writer, and producer of THE MIST, an adaptation of Stephen King's classic novella. After a vicious storm wreaks havoc in their small town in Maine, artist David Drayton (Thomas Jane) heads out to the town supermarket for some much-needed supplies with his young son, Billy (Nathan Gamble), and his neighbor, Norton (Andre Braugher), in tow. Their trip soon turns to terror when a menacing white mist settles in, leaving this group of locals and out-of-towners fighting for survival against an unknown, bloodthirsty enemy. When the local religious zealot (Marcia Gay Harden) begins to convince the group that the mist is punishment from God, Drayton and his cohorts realize that they may be trapped inside with an enemy just as dangerous as whatever is lurking outside.
Tension runs high in this tale as the trapped group faces difficult moral decisions. Should they stay and wait out the terror, or make a break for it and risk suffering a terrible fate? Is the eerie mist the will of God, an experiment from the local military base gone awry, or, maybe, a freak natural disaster? Without modern conveniences and the normal conventions and rules to guide them, the group is easily swayed by the loudest opinion. Will they save themselves at the expense of each other, or work as a team to save everyone? There is a decent amount of blood and gore for horror fans, some deadpan humor and just a hint of politics thrown in for good measure. Thomas Jane is a stoic leading man, but Frances Sternhagen and Toby Jones are more fun as unlikely heroes. Laurie Holden, Alexa Davalos, Bill Sadler and Jeffrey Demunn also star in this creepy tale.
Blu-Ray widescreen edition starring William Sadler, Chris Owen, Andre Braugher, and directed by Frank Darabont.

Fight Club film
$29.56 Dan Brown’s novels are packed with fascinating historical tidbits which he ingeniously twists into plots that are so intricate and complex that there is a constant need to inform the reader with exposition, often leaving little room for character development. There is a bit of this stilted quality to ANGELS AND DEMONS, the second of Brown’s novels to be brought to the big screen by the tandem of Ron Howard and Tom Hanks, but more than enough intense action to keep the eyes of the audience as busy as their minds. The details of the plot are as diabolical as any in Hollywood history: after the pope’s death, a nefarious organization stashes an antimatter bomb somewhere in the Vatican, threatening to annihilate the conclave of cardinals who are meeting to elect the papal successor. To pass the time until the bomb will detonate, the enemy begins to torture and kill a few of the individual cardinals, but there is a pattern to the grotesque executions, involving hidden sculptural symbols and secret architectural clues. Unfortunately for the church, the man most capable of deciphering the code is the American "symbologist" Robert Langdon (Hanks), who happens to be an affirmed atheist. The script is filled with amazing details about the centuries-old conflict between the church and the Illuminati (whose members included Galileo, Michelangelo, and Bernini), which Hanks uncovers as he breathlessly races between various landmarks in Rome, always a step behind the sinister assassin. The secondary cast consists almost entirely of European actors, including Ewan McGregor, Stellan Skarsgaard, and Armin Mueller-Stahl, who betray so little emotion that it is impossible to tell who is a part of the conspiracy until long after the explosive climax.
