Loreena McKennitt's A MEDITERRANEAN ODYSSEY collection includes an 11-track anthology of her more Mediterranean-influenced works entitled OLIVE AND THE CEDAR, as well as a ten-track live performance recorded in 2009 called FROM ISTANBUL TO ATHENS. McKennitt's transition from Celtic balladeer to worldbeat superstar began in the early '90s with the genre-hopping VISIT. Her penchant for Mediterranean/Far East/Middle Eastern instrumentation came to fruition on 1994's MASK AND MIRROR and 1997's BOOK OF SECRETS, the latter of which spawned her biggest commercial hit "The Mummer's Dance." The bulk of OLIVE AND THE CEDARis made up of material from those three albums. FROM ISTANBUL TO ATHENS mines much of the same material, but draws more heavily from 2006's ANCIENT MUSE A Mediterranean Odyssey Music | List Price | $24.98 (You save $5.69) | | Category | Rock/Pop Albums, World CDs, International, New Age, Celtic, Rock | | Label | Quinlan Road | | Orig Year | 2009 | | All Time Sales Rank | 106785 | | CD Universe Part number | 8000965 | | Catalog number | 001349802 | | Discs | 2 | | Release Date | Oct 20, 2009 | | Studio/Live | Studio | | Producer | Loreena McKennitt | | Recording Time | 103 minutes | | Personnel | Loreena McKennitt - vocals, harp, accordion, piano, keyboards Caroline Lavelle - cello Hugh Marsh - violin Ben Grossman - hurdy-gurdy, triangle, percussion

A Mediterranean Odyssey
$15.65 Personnel: Loreena McKennitt (vocals, various instruments); Brian Hughes (vocals, various instruments); Tim Landers (bass guitar); Tal Bergman (drums, percussion); Hossam Ramzy (percussion). With 2006's AN ANCIENT MUSE, Loreena McKennitt's first studio album since 1997's THE BOOK OF SECRETS, the Canadian vocalist/multi-instrumentalist reestablishes herself as one of the finest purveyors of atmospheric, globe-spanning music. While the gentle, emotive "Penelope's Song" recalls her contemporary Sarah McLachlan, tracks such as "The Gates of Istanbul" and "Sacred Shabbat" are much more exotic pieces, steeped in a lush Middle-Eastern aesthetic. Fans who waited nearly a decade for this record will not be disappointed. Canadian Celtic/new age/worldbeat architect Loreena McKennitt may be an odd ...
