Marathon marked the addition of keyboard player Alan Pasqua and singer Greg Walker's replacement by singer/guitarist Alex Ligertwood in the Santana lineup. Otherwise, the album was notable for consisting entirely of band-written material, although those songs were in the established R&B/rock style evolved on albums like Amigos, Festival, and Inner Secrets. An Important Transition
.1979's 'Marathon' finds Santana shaking off some of the R&B and jazz-funk aspects of their 70's sound back into more percussive rock again and you'll find most of the songs here fit into the latter catagory-"Lightening In The Sky,"Aqua Marine" and "Hard Times" are a dry run for the next album to come. But the jamming grooves of "Runnin'" and the melodic uptempo dance-funk of "Stay (Beside Me) still clutch onto R&B pretty close.

Nice to hear a old favorite again!
The CD was shipped quickly and the sound quailty is just like the old album. Will look at CD Universe for other favorites.
