Kansas: There's Know Place Like Home Video Kansas: There's Know Place Like Home Movie Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Awesome as usual Hope all the young people in the world get this DVD and witness the greatest American band there ever was.
Musicianship is beyond compare! Submitted by Eddie (Kemp, TX, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
great performance but... I've been awaiting this DVD since I heard it was being made back in Feb. of this year(2009). I just watched the whole thing and here are my thoughts.
The music is outstanding. Great chord changes, melodies and lyrics. The orchestra even brings that out more.
The sound is great. These guys just aren't the same without Jeff Glixman at the helm. I was glad to see ( and hear) he was at the controls again.
However... OMG the camera work is terrible. Could you hold the camera still for one minute without zooming in or out or panning the stage? I want to see the guys in the band not the lights and auditorium. And isn't this supposed to be high definition. It looked like the camera lens had grease on it it was so fuzzy at times. I quit watching it half way through and just listened. I know the guys in the band are getting old but could you show their faces every now and then? They ain't that old yet!
Great band... Great performance... average filming. Please remove the zoom in/out button from their cameras next time. Submitted by sam (anytown, MW, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
age has nothing to do with it! These guys are still going strong! The DVD is excellent quality and the musicianship is really bustin' out! Buy it! Submitted by jcjerrycordero (Trujillo Alto, PR) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great show, camera work could be better The band sounds awesome, especially with the orchestra playing behind them. It is nice to see Steve Morse and Kerry Livgren performing with the band. The only reason I give this 4 stars is that sometimes, the screen shot appears blurry when the camera is in motion. Buy this and the CD if you are a fan. 2 LPs on 1 CD. Kansas: Robby Steinhardt (vocals, violin); Steve Walsh (vocals, keyboards); Kerry Livgren (guitar, keyboards); Rich Williams (guitar); Dave Hope (bass); Phil Ehart (drums, percussion). Recorded live in 1977 & 1978. By the late '70s, Kansas had not only established themselves as one of America's most adventurous progressive rock bands; they even had a number of Top 20 hits to their credit. And as they finally paused for a breath after a string of five increasingly successful studio albums, it made perfect sense to fill the gap with a live album. Originally released as a double-vinyl set, Two for the Show is a sprawling, mind-boggling affair that juggles such overblown epics as "Journey from Mariabronn" and the self-explanatory "Magnum Opus" with mandatory hit singles "Carry on Wayward Son" and "Dust in the Wind." The former will undoubtedly thrill fanatics with their extended improvisations, but the indistinct performances of the latter will prove largely useless to the casual fan. And with live albums in general going the way of the vinyl record these days, this particular fossil will only satisfy musical anthropologists. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia By ...
