American Survival Guide, Vol. 1 album
$15.65 The release of 2009's ENDGAME brings with it a startling realization: if first-generation thrash metal fans had been polled about which of the genre's "Big Four" -- Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth -- would prove to be the ...

| | Thousand Foot Krutch Welcome To The Masquerade CD (2009)
American Survival Guide, Vol. 1 CD music
$12.09 On 2009's WELCOME TO THE MASQUERADE, the trio that put the "rawk" in rawkfest gives no hint of the rap element that once defined their sound, fueling the evidence that the guys from Toronto have fully morphed into one of the decade's powerhouse modern rock outfits. No longer living in a world dominated by rapcore and nu metal groups that once drew their comparisons (Limp Bizkit, Korn), Thousand Foot Krutch have moved on, climbing new heights of pure rock which, it would seem, the band was always destined to reach. Indeed, the band's full-scale audio assault makes it difficult to imagine that they could ever top the crystal-clear production and deliberate crunch of MASQUERADE. Each track is propelled by muscular riffs, fighting their way into permanent memory alongside the greatest mainstream rock ...

| | Ray Charles The Spirit Of Christmas CD (1985) Bonus Track; Remastered
American Survival Guide, Vol. 1 CD music
$9.25 Digitally remastered by Bill Inglot and Dan Hersch (DigiPrep).
The problem with most Christmas albums is that they're so similar to all other Christmas albums: same songs, same arrangements, same cheesy background choruses. Any fears that Ray Charles' THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS will fit the mold are quickly dispelled on the first track, "What Child Is This?," on which Charles renders a beautiful, soulful vocal, then leads a swinging big band through several tempo and feel changes, all accompanied by hot charts and hotter solos. True, Charles trots out the same old songs, but it's guaranteed you've never heard "The Little Drummer Boy," "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer," and "Winter Wonderland" performed this way before.
Charles pulls out all the stops on THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS, incorporating elements of gospel, soul, big band jazz, and country (Charles recorded his classic album MODERN SOUNDS IN COUNTRY AND WESTERN the same year that he recorded this album). The result is a brilliant fusion of American sounds that presents as cogent an argument as any for the cultural preeminence of the U.S. in the twentieth century. Rhino's reissue includes a bonus track, the Charles-Betty Carter duet ...
