Personnel: Jim Brickman (piano). Photographer: Rob Waymen. For his 2009 effort, pianist (and new age juggernaut) Jim Brickman decided to celebrate the music he's heard on his travels around the world. The fittingly titled BEAUTIFUL WORLD plays like an elegy as Brickman brings his usual soft elegance to simple three-minute compositions which take in everything from tropicalia ("Carnivale") to bossa nova ("Noche Pacifica") to chanson ("Romance Sur La Seine"). He wraps things up with a cover of Burt Bachrach's classic piano-bar number "What the World Needs Now Is Love" featuring a host of vocalists including Jon Secada and Melinda Doolittle, an apt summing up of the spirit of the record. After a string of vocal collaborations, Jim Brickman returned to solo instrumentals (the style that earned him a place in the upper echelon of new age/classical crossover artists) for 2009's Beautiful World. Inspired by the universal concepts of music and friendship, Beautiful World subsists primarily on Brickman's soft, melodic piano cues, but guest appearances from Jon Secada, Orla Fallon, Melinda Doolittle, and Mark Masri help to expand Brickman's simplistic yet effective pieces into expansive, atmospheric tone poems that will please newcomers and longtime fans alike. [The CD was also released with five bonus tracks.] ~ James Christopher Monger Jim Brickman Beautiful World Songs Beautiful World Review

| | Daniel Marjason Green Blues CD (2009)
Beautiful World
$13.15 GREEN BLUES - sleeve notes:Flow- 1990 – This is a song about the direction of the human part of the planet. My Mother – 2002 – This song was written after a conversation I had during a training workshop with Michael White, a well-known Australian therapist and author (see Dulwich Centre Adelaide). Michael has always been about finding the good in any so called ‘dysfunctional’ family so that good can begin to build on good, rather than using language that totalises people and families in negative ways. Here I am sending my dear mother a message to honour her story. The Lift – 1981 – This is a strange long song I can’t let go of. I used to sing it at folk clubs in the early 80’s to a very mixed reception, well, maybe not so mixed! The Blessing – 2006 – This song is dedicated to Denis Kevans the Australian Poet Lorikeet who sadly passed away in 2005. I visited him days before he died and the song is about what happened. Mighty Machines – 1991 - written at the beginning of the first gulf war - just rolled off the tongue as I was sitting with my guitar on my back step in Annandale singing to my neighbours open backdoor as the first bombs started to fall. Seems strangely still relevant for some reason. Rainbow Warrior – 1985 – On the 10th of July 1985 the Rainbow Warrior, the flagship of Green peace, was bombed while in Auckland Harbour New Zealand. The ship had been sailing to areas of the South Pacific affected by French nuclear testing. As he went to retrieve his gear, a second explosion killed the ships photographer, Fernando Pereira. I wrote this song shortly after this event. I sang Rainbow Warrior and dedicated it to Denis ...
