Each step Angel takes in this film noir nightmare brings him nearer to the heat of hell. In Alan Parker's ANGEL HEART, based on the novel FALLING ANGEL by William Hjortsberg, a New York City gumshoe is hired to find an aging blues singer. Harry Angel (Mickey Rourke) follows clues from the ominous ghettos of Harlem to the witchy backwoods of Louisiana, where he takes up with Epiphany Proudfoot (Lisa Bonet), the beautiful young daughter of a voodoo priestess, whom he believes will be able to shed light on the growing mystery surrounding the missing musician. As Angel closes in on the truth of the case, his contacts start turning up dead. He begins to suspect he might be next.
Parker (MISSISSIPPI BURNING) threads a commentary on the limitations of modern Western society into his sensual, suspenseful thriller. As the story unfolds, Angel relies less and less on his failing, overwhelmed rational mind (and handgun) and more on Epiphany's ancient mojo. Rourke captures the unraveling protagonist perfectly, and Bonet adds an erotic and mysterious edge with her performance. Robert De Niro is both funny and malevolent as Angel's mysterious client, Louis Cyphre. Shimmering with a beguiling mist of the macabre, ANGEL HEART provides an unexpectedly haunting dose of gothic noir. Director Alan Parker was forced to cut 10 seconds out of a lovemaking scene between Lisa Bonet and Mickey Rourke in order to qualify for an "R" rating. The unrated version of the film has those additional 10 seconds.
Feature film debut for "Cosby Show" actress Lisa Bonet.
Shot on location in New York and New Orleans, Louisiana.

Angel Heart Movie Review Great Movie Couldn't wait for the DVD of Angel Heart. It's hard to describe it - but it has elements of horror, mystery, film noir,... Mickey Rouke's best role. And Bobby Deniro is great too! Submitted by John (Atlanta) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

A True Masterpiece! Raymond Chandler meets The Exorcist...something like that. A great showcase for Mickey Rourke's amazing talent.
PLEASE CATCH 'THE WRESTLER'- there are so few well written scripts and well acted and directed movies coming out of Hollywood - do not overlook this one. Submitted by faust8577 (Lorraine, Que. Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.
Angel Heart Revisited Twenty years after its release, and with hundreds of videos in my collection, I searched and finally found a pre-viewed copy of "Angel Heart" for my collection. It had haunted me all these years and was not being broadcast on any of my cable channels; therefore, I HAD to purchase it in order to view it again.
No video (now DVD) collection is complete without a copy of "Angel Heart". Much like the movie "9 1/2 Weeks", also starring Mickey Rourke, one finds oneself thinking, "I'd love to see that movie again". It is truly haunting and there is no way to predict the ending.
Mickey Rourke was born to play this part; in fact, I cannot concieve of any other actor playing it. Robert DiNiro was right on target with his interpretation of "Louis Cypher", and even Lisa Bonet, who previously appeared to me to be phoning her performances in, was just right for the part of Epiphany. The double-entendres abound and, after viewing this film, the characters' names make sense and are actually clues. Submitted by Linda (Pekin, IL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Rourke & DeNiro Blaze the Screen This movie is a movie that you will definitely watch more than once. And each time you watch it you will pick up more and more clues. When you watch it the first time the ending will shock you like big time because this movie will have you guessing through the whole movie until the final climax of it. Your jaw will hit the floor to the shocking ending. I highly recommend this movie if you like movies that are a bit on the dark side. 99% of the people who watch this movie cannot figure it out until the very end. I rest my case. | | Murphy's Romance DVD (1985) Widescreen
Angel Heart DVD
$6.55 A charming, low-key romantic comedy, MURPHY'S ROMANCE is full of the small pleasures missing from other pictures of its genre. James Garner, in his first Oscar-nominated performance, is the title character, Murphy. Garner lends his unique, down-home persona to the character while the film's writers endow the character with some memorable lines. Murphy's romance begins when Emma (Field) arrives in the small Arizona town where he lives. With her she brings her son Jake, and a feisty attitude. Though this sounds like a set-up from any number of other film romances, it becomes clear from their first meeting that the director, Martin Ritt, is more interested in his carefully observed setting, and in the comic flirtations between Murphy and Emma flirtations, than in making a conventional picture. In fact, some of the film's strongest comic scenes occur when the locals show off their color, including ...

Angel Heart review For Sale Pre-Order Now! Available: Tuesday, December 01, 2009
$19.97 A brutally comic tale about a group of London friends who find themselves deep in debt to an East End tough, LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS is quick-paced, stylized, and highly entertaining. In his debut feature film, director-writer Guy Ritchie weaves a tangled web of shady, blithely eccentric characters and several storylines, all of them coming together in a gleeful explosion of murder and mayhem. When streetwise charmer Eddy (Nick Moran), the son of steely bar owner JD (Sting), botches a gambling scheme with his dad's nemesis, porn king Hatchet Harry (P.H. Moriarty), he's got one week to come up with 500,000 pounds or he loses his fingers--and so do his friends Tom (Jason Flemyng), Bacon (Jason Statham), and Soap (Dexter Fletcher). While the pals scheme to make the money, Harry indulges his penchant for valuable antique shot guns, stolen for him by a couple of inept burglars. Soon the missing guns, a paranoid group of marajuana growers, a mean-spirited debt collector (Vinnie Jones) and his young son, and a violent ...
