Actor Bill Paxton's directorial debut, FRAILTY, has been hailed for its originality by author Stephen King and director Sam Raimi (THE EVIL DEAD). The film opens on a stormy night when an intense man (Matthew McConaughey) walks into FBI headquarters in Dallas and tells Agent Wesley Doyle (Powers Boothe) that he knows who the "God's Hand" serial killer is. He tells a compelling tale, shown in flashback, of how he and his brother lived with their kind widower father (Bill Paxton), a mechanic. One night, their father woke them to tell them he'd had a vision, and that God had commanded the family to slay demons in human form. The older brother, Fenton (Matt O'Leary), doesn't believe a word of it, and assumes that their father has gone mad. The younger brother, Adam (Jeremy Sumpter), is more easily swayed. Soon the father is bringing people home, supposedly chosen by God for them to slay. When Fenton tries to resist his father's plan, he finds his own life in danger. Eschewing graphic gore in favor of more subtle chills, Paxton's suspenseful and creepy film harkens back to the wholesome surface and underlying depravity of classics like NIGHT OF THE HUNTER.

Theatrical Release: APRIL 12, 2002 (LA/NY)

Frailty Reviews:

"...A powerful, disturbing work....[The film] has the elements of a horror movie and police procedural, but it is much more -- deeper, more thoughtful, more tragic..." -- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

"...Paxton The Director exhibits a visual sensibility to match the sober story and low-key performances..."-- Jamie Graham, Total Film

"...It's the film's patient pacing and moody atmosphere that are so unsettling..." -- Dalton Ross, Entertainment Weekly

"...This creepy role is one of Mr. McConaghey's juiciest to date....The screenplay has some clever tricks up its sleeve..." -- Stephen Holden, New York Times

"...FRAILTY is a well-crafted, disturbing Texas gothic thriller, a completely spooky piece of business that gets under your skin..." -- Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times

"...It is an unsettling, memorable cinematic experience that does its predecessors proud....Paxton's subtle and measured direction slowly but surely ratchets up the tension..." -- Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter

"...Paxton gives one of his strongest performances ever..." -- Michael Tunison, Box Office

After PRIDE AND PREJUDICE and ATONEMENT, Keira Knightley continues her reign as the queen of the period film with this 18th-century costume drama. The corset-clad actress stars as Georgiana Spenser, the Duchess of Devonshire. With her marriage to the duke (Ralph Fiennes), Georgiana achieves an impressive level of fame as Britons follow both her clothing style and her political advice. But even celebrity and wealth can't act as a salve in her marriage to the boring, boorish duke. When he begins to flaunt his affairs, Georgiana is tempted to return to a teenage crush, Charles Grey (Dominic Cooper of THE HISTORY BOYS), to the anger of her husband and her mother (Charlotte Rampling, SWIMMING POOL). Fiennes's portrayal of the duke ranks roughly with his Lord Voldemort on a scale of beastly behavior, but the acclaimed actor manages to give him a level of humanity that far surpasses what he deserves. THE DUCHESS focuses on the lack of power possessed by Georgiana and, in fact, all women of her time, ...

The official soundtrack to the 2009 hit comic book movie is not your typical collection of hard-and-heavy rock anthems and hip-hop party songs. With the exception of My Chemical Romance's amped-up cover of Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row," it is a sobering blend of standards from days past. Complementing the somber mood and flashback sequences throughout the film, songs like Dylan's "The Times They Are ...

Winner of numerous prizes at prestigious film festivals all around the world, including Sundance, San Francisco, and Buenos Aires, BALLAST is a stunning, emotionally powerful feature-film debut from Lance Hammer, who wrote, directed, and edited the film and served as one of the producers. After his brother commits suicide, Lawrence (Michael J. Smith Sr.) stops going to work at his convenience store, instead just sitting alone at home, staring straight ahead at the television, like a zombie. When his 12-year-old nephew, James (JimMyron Ross), pulls a gun on him and demands money, Lawrence barely reacts, not caring about anything. James needs the money to pay off the local drug dealers for the crack he has been smoking. Meanwhile, ...
