From The Earth To The Moon Video From The Earth To The Moon Movie Review Work of Art!!! I was in the womb during Armstrong's historic trip. I'd like to say that courage, invention, and imagination alone took us to the moon, but I'd be remiss if I didn't add politics. Today, with no real competition in the space arena (like the Soviets), there's nothing to motivate NASA to send humans beyond the moon. So here we've been stuck in low Earth orbit since 1972. Someone should send a copy of this miniseries to NASA...they behave as if they've forgotten it all. Highly recommended!! Submitted by Wang Hung Lo (Pensacola, FL) Was This Review Helpful? Great insight Even though I was old enough to watch the whole earth to moon race I really did not pay that much attention to it. This series gave me an insight to what it must have been like for the families of those brave explorers Submitted by dtenand (San Antonio, Texas) Was This Review Helpful? Space Exploration and the Human Spirit This was a wonderful HBO miniseries that was obviously a labor of love for those who made it - a list that includes Tom Hanks (whose vision the project was) and Ron Howard's Imagine Entertainment. Detailing Project Apollo's successful mission to put humanity onto the Earth's moon, it focuses equally upon the technology and the people who ultimately pulled off what many consider to be mankind's greatest achievement. Executive Producer Tom Hanks deserves a lot of credit. Not only was it his idea to create this ode to the human spirit.Production values are outstanding - amazingly so considering this isn't a big budget Hollywood movie but rather a miniseries made for the premium cable TV channel HBO. It makes you wonder where all the money for the big budget Hollywood movies goes! They've painstakingly recreated the technology and locations - right down to special effects shots that often look as if they were shot by a documentary crew floating alongside the Apollo missions in their own camera ships (except that you know they weren't). They've even recreated famous images like the Earth rising over the lunar horizon as shot from Apollo 8 at Christmastime 1968 - images we've seen a million times. And the lunar surface scenes look very real, indeed. This "documentary" feel permeates the entire dozen hours, giving the miniseries a historical quality that belies the present day actors populating it. In fact, when I first heard of the miniseries I thought it was a documentary and, though I was disappointed when I learned that it wasn't, that disappointment turned to awe as the miniseries unfolded. Call me an emotional fool, or incurable space nut/romantic, but I was hooked by this miniseries virtually from the opening shots - and the more I got into it the more I marveled and the more I wanted it to keep on going. I'm still amazed that a TV channel could pull off such a production. "From the Earth to the Moon" definitely belongs in the DVD library of any fan of space, space movies, or tributes to the human experience.

Review of Space Program Though the Mercury and Gemini programs were good over view, I felt they were a little rushed. The Apollo programs did a great job depicting that program from the tragic start to the first landing to the final steps on the moon. The final in the series did a great job of reviewing what happend to these American heros and their families.
If you want a good review of the American Space program with small injects of the Russian program I would say this is a must see.
If your only memory of space is the shuttle then you need to see this to be aware of where it all started. Submitted by minman3 (Del Rio, TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

$21.43 Dan Brown’s novels are packed with fascinating historical tidbits which he ingeniously twists into plots that are so intricate and complex that there is a constant need to inform the reader with exposition, often leaving little room for character development. There is a bit of this stilted quality to ANGELS AND DEMONS, the second of Brown’s novels to be brought to the big screen by the tandem of Ron Howard and Tom Hanks, but more than enough intense action to keep the eyes of the audience as busy as their minds. The details of the plot are as diabolical as any in Hollywood history: after the pope’s death, a nefarious organization stashes an antimatter bomb somewhere in the Vatican, threatening to annihilate the conclave of cardinals who are meeting to elect the papal successor. To pass the time until the bomb will detonate, the enemy begins to torture and kill a few of the individual cardinals, but there is a pattern to the grotesque executions, involving hidden sculptural symbols and secret architectural clues. Unfortunately for the church, the ...
