Black & White; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; Soundtrack French; Soundtrack Spanish; English Subtitles André de Toth's remake of MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM is one of the first and best 3-D (stereoscopic) feature films, an alternative technology (like Cinemascope, Cinerama) used by 1950s directors attempting to compete with the new threat of television. Professor Jarrod (Vincent Price) is a devoted wax figure sculptor for his museum in 1910s NYC. When his financial partner, Sidney Wallace (Paul Cavanagh), demands more sensational exhibits to increase profits, Jarrod refuses. The vengeful Wallace torches the museum, leaving Jarrod for dead. Miraculously, Jarrod survives (though his hands and legs are rendered useless) and builds a new House of Wax with help from threatening deaf-mute sculptor, Igor (Charles Bronson). The museum's popular "Chamber of Horrors" showcases recent crimes like the murder of Wallace, a victim of a cloaked, disfigured killer along with his fiancée, Cathy (Carolyn Jones). When Cathy's friend, Sue (Phyllis Kirk), visits the museum she makes a discovery that leads to the horrifying truth behind the House of Wax. With gasp inducing (and tongue-in-cheek) 3-D scenes like the museum fire, paddleball man, and can-can girls, de Toth creates an atmospheric film which stands up as a horror classic in 2-D as well. When theatrically re-issued, "House of Wax" received an MPAA GP rating.
Filmed in Technicolor and Stereophonic sound.
Rated BBFC PG by the British Board of Film Classification.
Andre de Toth had one eye while directing the film and was unable to enjoy the groundbreaking 3-D effects. House Of Wax Reviews: "...Great fun..."

$29.59 Those prepared to hate the reboot of STAR TREK--whether they’re diehard fans or those in the anti-sci-fi camp--may be convinced to lower their shields after seeing this fun, action-filled film. Best known for creating mythology-driven series like LOST, J.J. Abrams has imbued his version with the elements that have made his shows such mind-bending entertainment while still keeping the soul of the saga intact. STAR TREK begins with an attack by an impossibly advanced Romulan ship captained by the tattooed, snarling Nero (Eric Bana). Among the survivors is the infant version of James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), who grows up to wreak havoc on the Iowa countryside. When Captain Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood) meets an adult Kirk, he encourages him to join Starfleet, giving him the opportunity to meet Spock (Zachary Quinto), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), and the rest of the characters audiences have loved for decades.
Abrams has assembled a fine cast who seem to be aware of their predecessors but never resort to impressions. Both Quinto and Pine do a fine job with their portrayals of Kirk and Spock, and Karl Urban couldn’t be better as Leonard McCoy. The supporting players--Simon Pegg (Scotty), John Cho (Sulu), and Anton Yelchin (Chekov)--all capture the essence of what drove their characters, though their screen time is limited. STAR TREK manages the nearly impossible: it pleases hardcore fans with plenty of in-jokes and references (and an appearance by the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy), but it doesn’t alienate newcomers with tons of technobabble. The action and effects rank with any other top-tier summer blockbuster, but there’s plenty of humor to balance the excitement. For anyone who (wrongly) felt he had to hide his trekker tendencies, this undeniably cool version of STAR TREK offers a chance to wear the "geek" label with pride.

$9.85 Aliens with nice faces and reptilian habits descend over the earth bringing a new and menacing world order with them in this landmark television miniseries. Sixty-five million viewers reportedly viewed the original broadcast. Disguised to look just like humans, the aliens are actually lizard-like creatures out to strip the planet of its water supply and turn humans into food. Although most people are fooled by the visitors and allow the planet to be taken over by the fascist monsters, a group of resistance fighters try to defeat these creatures. Helping the underground movement is a journalist (Marc Singer) who figures out just what the aliens are up to. The story concludes in V: THE FINAL BATTLE.

$7.15 A meteor shower disrupts the earth's ecosystem and, unfortunately for the roughly 99% of the world's population that either advertently or inadvertently witnessed the beautiful but dangerous event, it blinds them. Moments later, Bill Masen takes off his hospital blindfold and realizes he's one of the only people with sight left on Earth. It just might be up to Bill and an alcoholic scientist to care of the Triffids, sentient and hostile alien plant life triggered by the blinding blast to emerge from spores that had already been brought to Earth by an earlier meteor shower. Based on a novel by John Wyndham that originally revolved around experimental-but-decidedly-earthly plants running amok, many elements were added to this feature adaptation to make it somewhat reminiscent of WAR OF THE WORLDS. The screenplay was originally credited to only Phillip Yordan, with co-scribe Bernard Gordon receiving no billing.

$12.99 Resurrecting the nunsploitation genre of the 1970s, this high-quality production is a hugely erotic criticism of religion that is far more fun than that statement would suggest. It's set in an 18th century convent, where the nuns are suffering from a mysterious illness that leads them to commit acts of horrific perversity to themselves and others. Lesbian sex, orgies, masturbation, and torture, their confessions reveal all, and the lovely, faithful Sister Mary is assigned to get to the bottom of this madness. She's soon caught the bug as well, and is plagued by visions of the "Death Nun" and Mary Magdalene. The story soon takes a backseat to the steamy nun-on-nun action, with well-lit, beautiful sets and creepy religious imagery to heighten the mood, while the girls strap each other to crucifixes, get molested by the village boys, and become intimate with priests.
Director Nigel Wingrove brings you blasphemously perverse lesbian nuns in action with this contemporary nunsploitation film. Starring Eileen Daly, this film toils with themes of repressed sexuality and sin, as the Mother Superior of a medieval convent is tormented by lust and torn on her voews of chastity. Taunted by visions of Mary Magdalene, who reveals the confessions of the younger nuns at the convent, the Mother Superior learns that repression only leads to perversions of the flesh as she sees her sisters naked, masturbatig, embroiled in steamy lesbian encounters, molested by priests, and even kidnapped and crucifying a rival nun!
